Our MRP found there was not a single constituency in Britain where concern about climate change falls below 50% of the electorate. Voters across the political spectrum expected politicians to take action to tackle it.
Ed Miliband painted a bleak picture of climate change impacts at this morning's cabinet. "Climate change is a threat to national security & growth, given [it] could force more than 200m people globally to migrate, the global economy could be 19% smaller in 2049 than it would be…
Amazing to see so many here to #MarchForCleanWater! Luke, one of our campaigners, shares why we're here✊🏻🐦
Let’s #FloodTheStreets Today we’re proud to join other charities and organisations such as @WildlifeTrusts @sascampaigns @RiverActionUK to march for clean water. Our wildlife needs healthy rivers, ponds, wetlands and seas, and so do we.
the £3 billion annual cost of extending the 5p fuel duty cut is roughly equivalent to the annual fare take of every bus in England — £3.1 billion in 2023. so you could nearly make every bus free for the same cost gov.uk/government/sta…
The cost of capping bus fares at £2 would have been tiny compared with keeping the fuel duty freeze. We should be incentivizing public transport which would help reduce carbon emissions - rather than continuing with this regressive fuel duty cut. #AutumnBudget
Reminder: Repeated fuel-duty freezes since 2011 have cost the govt at least £80bn and raised UK CO2 emissions by as much as 7% carbonbrief.org/analysis-fuel-…
For goodness sake. Despite big tax rises overall chancellor has done it again. Fuel duty frozen and "temporary" 5p cut kept. This government is supposed to care about climate change. And I'm willing to bet fiscal numbers assume increases into the future. How much longer?
EU vs Puffins- Shamefully, the EU has just triggered post Brexit arbitration mechanism to to try and force the UK to reopening the ecologically devastating Sandeels fishery that is at the heart of the collapse of North Sea marine food chains. oceans-and-fisheries.ec.europa.eu/news/eu-reques…
Pumping billions into dangerous & ineffective carbon capture tech is letting the fossil fuel lobby off the hook – we should be insulating homes , installing heat pumps and transitioning to EVs , not letting big industry skirt round the real solutions to hit net zero . . .
Year on year, our birds of prey are being illegally killed—shot, poisoned, and trapped. Watch our video to learn why, despite legal protections, bird crime persists. 👇 Our 2023 Birdcrime Report, out today, reveals the full picture—and what must be done: rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wild…
✈️NEW RESEARCH ✈️ We need to fly less to stop climate breakdown. But excessive flying is dominated by the well-off. In Western Europe, the richer you are, the more likely you are to fly three or more times a year. It’s the wealthiest who need to reduce their flying the most.
🧵The Water (Special Measures) Bill was swift work by DEFRA & @SteveReedMP has made hopeful commitments for more to come. But here are 3 ways the bill should be improved now to ensure: 1. polluters pay for nature restoration 2. companies keep their word 3. Ofwat works for nature.
It's unsettling to hear @Keir_Starmer's deregulation plans today. Done wrong, this will mean fewer protections for nature when it urgently needs more. We support growth, we support the energy transition, but not at the expense of the natural world.
Very odd for the government to announce an airport expansion against the recommendation of the Climate Change Committee on a day their industrial strategy claims to have green growth at its heart and boasts about UK decarbonisation assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/670cde86…
This is absolute madness. Carbon capture and storage has failed time and again. Labour has slashed reliable green programmes, to pour vast sums of our money into a complete crock. The only possible explanation is lobbying by fossil fuel companies.🧵 theguardian.com/environment/20…
🚨NEW: Carbon Capture tech allows fossil fuel companies to continue polluting. Today the UK gov pledged a WHOPPING 22bn to it. That money could insulate millions of homes and build thousands of wind turbines. These are the REAL solutions to STOP emissions AND bring bills down.
This £22bn for carbon capture projects extends the lifespan of a dirty, dying fossil fuel industry. Rather than properly fund a home insulation scheme for those unable to afford it, which would cut carbon emissions and our energy bills. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
At this year’s #LabourConference24, the first since coming into power at Westminster, Keir Starmer emphasised reforming the planning system to tackle climate change and build more homes. 🧵

Environmental protection & planning experts have been under-resourced for years. Conservation groups, unions and industry agree that this budget is the time to put things right so we can build clean infrastructure & homes while protecting nature & involving communities.
We've teamed up with @AldersgateGrp, @ProspectUnion & more to call on Gov to tackle major lack of resources in planning system Chronic underinvestment in environmental planning expertise has led to poor decisions & delays⏳ More via @BusinessGreen 👇 businessgreen.com/news/4356995/c…
