Most studies on esketamine (and the UK licence) have been as add-on to antidepressants. This study suggests monotherapy may also be effective - although only short term data. As ever the challenge with (es)ketamine comes in the longer term.

Same for suicide risk, where the assessment itself can be part of treatment. It’s not about prediction - it’s more about identifying risk factors and collaborating, where possible, on addressing them. And other benefits as explained in our OxSET paper: mentalhealth.bmj.com/content/27/1/e…
The truth is the risk assessment itself can be a therapeutic intervention for people. They’ve lived with their risks a long time and finally they can talk about it, talk about their views without judgement. Has to be managed very well. Needs to be about what they want to tell…
