🧵People will try a lot of things over the next couple of days to keep us from making the sexual abuse reforms we need to make at #sbc22. (1) They’ll try to discredit survivors and those who’ve called for reform. (2) They’ll claim the people pushing for reform are liberal, 1/5

When you tug on Jesus’s robe, he doesn’t sigh or roll his eyes. Jesus loves to be pestered.

If anyone was looking for an excuse not to deal with sexual abuse and mistreatment of survivors within the SBC, Guidepost Solutions provided the perfect cover yesterday with their “pride” month tweet. I was both disappointed and stunned. A couple of thoughts about this…

The resources the Good Samaritan spent on the wounded man (Luke 10) could have been spent on missions. The resources Christ’s sheep spent on the hungry, thirsty, naked, sick, & imprisoned (Matthew 25) could have been spent on missions.

Lemme tell you how this works: all you have to do to thwart change in conservative Christian ranks is to frame it as a progressive takeover. “The liberals are coming! The liberals are coming! Woke alert!” When our fear of liberalism exceeds our fear of the Lord, our god is power.

Gentleness is not usually one of the first qualities we look for in a pastor. In fact, I think gentleness is one of those Christian virtues that falls through the cracks when we’re evaluating ourselves and others.

Some weeks it seems like the news comes faster than our hearts can keep up. But tragedies and systemic failures do not get the last word. God will wipe every tear from our eyes, and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain. In the midst of hurt, there is hope.

Yes, we should pray in the face of this unspeakable grief. Pray for God's comfort for victims and their families. Pray for God's mercy for our broken nation. But we should also pray for the wisdom and courage necessary to *act* to save lives and stop this terrible scourge.

Those that voted against waiving privilege should be voted off the @SBCExecComm, so they certainly SHOULD NOT hold any leadership position on the EC.

We've known about the moral rot in the highest levels of #SBC leadership for years. What's incredible is not that this evil exists, but that it has been dragged into the light by incredibly brave women so that wicked men can't obscure the narrative.

Keys to a cheerful Twitter experience: 1. Block and/or mute without compunction. 2. Follow only those who edify, calmly inform, and/or positively entertain/amuse. And here’s the hard part: 3. Limit your time scrolling and quench your curiosity about squabbles.

Don’t stress, pastor friends. Your Easter sermon means saying the same things you said last year, which are the same things you say every Sunday: “Jesus died & rose again because of God’s great love for us. Repent & believe the good news.” Repetition never sounded better.

So much chaos and confusion in the church; how can we make sure we focus on what Jesus calls “weightier matters” in his Woes to the Pharisees?

From my Lenten readings this morning: “.. that our knowledge of Christs suffering would make us safe people to receive the laments of others without spiritually trying to correct, edit, or silence their expression of pain.” When the world is hurting let us be ears. #lent2022

Let’s say you decide to hold outdoor worship services in your back yard every night from 7PM-9PM. You have a live band and a great sound system. There’s a good turnout for the first week, and you feel renewed and invigorated by the worship.

This is a brilliant example of how to be a Christian in the public square. Notice the witness, but in a form the culture can handle. We should desire to have more Christians in these spaces and give them grace as they operate.
