Thank you for endorsing my book @tonylloyd50 ! I hope it will make a positive difference to the lives of neurodivergent children ❤️ #neurodivergent #ADHD

Attended GCSE revision talk at my son's school. The talk was full of the words 'push your child' 'they need to achieve' finishing with a suggested revision timetable for the Easter break that started at 10 am and finished at 9 pm! Where's the regard for their mental health?!
People wouldn’t need disability benefits if they were not ‘disabled’ by an education system that writes so many of them off by mistakenly labelling them as low ability, less employable & refusing to screen them for Neurodiversity so teaching can be adapted for them to achieve.
As a consultant clinical psychologist, can I tell you nothing is less true. It is incredibly difficult to get disability benefits. It is not just a case of going to the GP and self-declaring. Claimants are constantly being assessed and reassessed to get and keep needed benefits.
Talking to children about neurodivergence is a delicate balance between regularly pointing out the strengths of their 'different-thinking' brain and accepting that a neurotypical world is going to present challenges. Being authentic builds trust. #ADHD #neurodivergence
You don't need an attendance ambassador. You need an inclusion ambassador.
I'm very pleased to appoint Rob Tarn as our new national attendance ambassador. As founder of our first attendance hub, Rob has delivered impressive results. I look forward to working with Rob as we drive up attendance in schools across England.
Loved being interviewed for the Education on Fire podcast about neurodivergence, education and how that informed the concepts of my book. I also discuss how influences such as @ADHDFoundation and @tonylloyd50 impacted my attitude to inclusive teaching. #neurodivergent #ADHD
Why is AI such a dirty word in education? I'm seeing it help many neurodivergent students who have felt ashamed because of their grammar, spelling and writing skills. AI is helping my dyslexic son to communicate in ways he never could before. #neurodivergent #inclusive
Please remember, the chief function of your body is not just to carry your head around. So many neurodivergent people live 90% of their lives functioning in their heads and almost forgetting entirely about their bodies...until they get sick. #neurodivergent #ADHD #autism
I'm training staff on ADHD tomorrow. How ironic that many of the 'traits' I'm going to mention cannot be found anywhere on the DSM-5. #ADHD #teaching #neurodivergent
My son, (dyslexia/ADHD) set his alarm for 5.30 am, went for a run, returned, had a cold shower, completed a GCSE past paper for hmk. At school he was told he'd completed the wrong past paper. Thankfully, his teacher did give him feedback. THIS highlights an ADHD brain so well.
Message to young people who are currently having the lifeblood sucked out of them by the school system. #ADHD #neurodivergent #school
Escalating school Exclusions, growing demand for children’s mental health services. We don’t listen so we don’t learn & children will communicate to us in other ways. School absence, underachievement, inappropriate behaviour & poor mental health -detentions won’t solve that.
It's Children's Mental Health week 2024. The theme is Your Voice Matters. I’d like to highlight the many ways in which children express their voice. For they don’t always talk or communicate in the ways that we expect. They often express their voice through their behaviour.…
Not every student can just remember their homework/pen/teacher's instructions. Try and learn why this is then build in tasks to help strengthen working memory instead of automatic punishment. #neurodivergence #ADHD #teaching
Latest from my son's school, a 'report card' that needs to be signed every time pupils attend a (voluntary) revision class. If school deems that pupils are 'on track' to pass GCSEs, they'll be 'allowed' to go to the prom! Unethical + total discriminatory.
I created this post as a teacher and SENCO myself and as a parent of a neurodivergent child. Burnt out, stressed teachers can't help burnt out stressed kids. #neurodivergent #adhdparenting
As a SENCO, teacher and parent of a late-diagnosed neurodivergent child, I can't tell you how conflicted I feel every night when it comes to 'revision and homework' time #neurodivergent #ADHD
Thinking of anyone affected by the national ADHD medication shortage. I'm feeling this impact at home with my husband and at work with my students. It feels like a crisis situation. #ADHD #adhdmedication
Spatial awareness is SO much more than 'being clumsy'. Your students can struggle with planning essays, misunderstanding exam questions, sensory overload, failing to follow instructions + a lack of confidence in their academic ability #neurodivergent
1 in 20 tax paying voting UK citizens have ADHD. They wait up to 10 years for an assessment. Only 11% use medication but they experience cultural & systemic exclusion of access in the NHS. If they can afford private assessments this is often not accepted by NHS=‘Discrimination’
