Great podcast. Takeaways: Teach complex skills by giving a worked example. Provide resources as scaffolding. Then provide challenges, allowing learners to refer to the resources. In the following challenges progressively remove the scaffolding. speexx.com/speexx-resourc…

Interesting idea: The Times journalists/columnists as SMEs for eLearning courses on “The Times Academy”. Target market looks like retirees and other with time on their hands. So many ways eLearning can be used... thetimesacademy.co.uk/courses/invent…

Another great paper from Samsung AI lab! @egorzakharovdl et al. animate heads using only few shots of target person (or even 1 shot). Keypoints, adaptive instance norms and GANs, no 3D face modelling at all. ▶️ youtu.be/p1b5aiTrGzY 📝 arxiv.org/abs/1905.08233

AI semantic analysis in @DonaldClark’s WildFire product sounds impressive. As freelance learning designer I would like to see AI semantic analysis in @Articulate @adobecaptivate @evolveauthoring or similar (more useful than AR/VR or new ways of presenting content)

#OEB18 Bjork and many others have shown that effortful learning and desirable learning increases retention and recall... not fun

Currently even for all options. I am starting to think you’re collectively pulling my leg!

The challenge is to make the exertion of effort worthwhile to learner. Either enjoy the exertion of effort (perhaps even a state of “flow”) or learner motivated by sense of achievement at completion of task (“This is boring but will be worth it). Latter requires learner maturity!

Preferred way = easiest way. Unfortunately, research shows most effective way to learn, as evidenced by retrieval practice and other techniques, has one critical ingredient: effort.
