I'm looking to create some ESL instructor resources that would be available online. What type of resource would you most like to see?

have a green thumb- to be good at taking care of plants. Ex: Her garden is beautiful because she has a green thumb.


by the by- a way to introduce unrelated information to what you are already talking about. Example: (first talking about school work) By the by, I saw there is a free movie showing Friday night I know you want to see.


Example- The sale sign in the window caught my attention when I walked by the store.


catch your attention- to notice something suddenly/ to notice something you weren't looking for.


How come?- another way to ask "Why?" Ex- A) I didn't buy the dress. B) How come? A) It didn't fit good.


to figure something out- to take time to learn how something works or discover a solution EX- I need to figure out where this screw goes.


Back in the game- return to doing something you stopped before EX-I took a break from practicing Spanish, but now I'm back in the game.


run of the mill-describes something typical or ordinary in a category. EX- Q-What kind of T-shirt did you buy? A-It is just run of the mill.


What's the matter?- same as "what's wrong?" but less strong EX-A friend looks a little sad but nothing serious, you ask "What's the matter?"


to be full-no more of an item can fit EX I'm full (you have eaten enough and can't eat anymore)The elevator is full (no more people can fit)


hit the jackpot-to have a big success in something you are doingEX-I hit the jackpot shopping today(you found good things or got great deal)


"No shirt, no shoes, no service" A sign a will see to say you must wear a shirt and shoes to get service.

That's like comparing apples and oranges!- It means the two items are totally different, there are not any parts easy to compare.


a dime a dozen-something that is very common. EX- Umbrellas are a dime a dozen in this city because it rains all the time.


Back in the saddle- starting to do something again that you had stopped doing for awhile. EX- I am back in the saddle on Twitter again!
