DC is more than Capitol Hill and the White House. It’s a place where people live. It’s Piscataway land, it’s Chocolate City (forever), home of go-go and mambo sauce, Salvadoran food and Little Ethiopia. It’s DC residents and workers who are bearing the burden of this moment.
I think it’s because alienating those while supremacists would be alienating their friends, family, spouses, etc to be honest. We see it all the time, there’s been multiple articles about it. Every damn Thanksgiving there’s the “how to talk to your racist uncle” storyline.
