If you are an aspiring developer and want to learn Go, I highly recommend “Head First Go”, an extremely well-written and easy-to-read book, written by @jaymcgavren, and published by @OReillyMedia. Also available as an Indian edition from @shroffpub @golang @GolcondaGophers

The first SysAdvent article for this year speaks highly of Head First Go, but they're right, finding a good tutorial book is only one piece of the puzzle. We strongly agree with their recommendations of Exercism and learning #git as well! sysadvent.blogspot.com/2021/12/the-my… #golang

realtoughcandy.com/best-golang-bo… is a well-curated list of #golang books. How do we know? Because it features Head First Go! Thanks to @realtoughcandy for thinking of us!

In @headfirstgo the "pill container" analogy is used for an Array, which I really love. It's fixed size, and you index into the collection with a day of the week (0-6). It can't grow. Much better than the ladder analogy ;)

I'm in the latest episode of Heroku's Code[ish] podcast! They were recording from their booth at #GopherCon and invited me to stop by. My appearance is at 12:09, but listen to the whole thing; it's a great way to get the pulse of the conference! heroku.com/podcasts/codei…

Book review! To sum up, the reviewer has some doubts about the order topics are presented in (believe me, we made some hard choices), but is enjoying the book overall!

Some nice aspects of #golang only become obvious when you switch back to another language. For example, Go's function definition syntax progresses forward in time as you read left to right, from the parameters to the return type. C#/Java put the return type BEFORE the parameters!

I had disabled the "goimports" hook in my editor because I didn't want to miss noting when an import needed to be added in the samples for Head First Go. Just re-enabled it. Ahh, what a relief! 😌 godoc.org/golang.org/x/t…
