This is a good lil’ thread about NOT using primate GIFs that feature primates in unnatural settings (which can promote the idea that they could successfully be someone’s pet)

There are quality primate GIFs (wild & zoo) but I and many other primatologists do our best to not use any that could support the pet trade/poor welfare - no clothing, leashes, human settings, weird inter-species relationships (ex: orangutan & tiger babies). #primatology

Redistributing power in primatology by changing the conservation conversation to focus on local narratives & epistemologies was one key piece of advice I took away from the @peopleprimate webinar #DecolonizePrimatology now available to watch anytime from human-primate-interactions.org/webinars

Some days I feel really exasperated with how many scientists constantly promote more expensive research, more data & technological solutions to environmental challenges that require social, cultural, economic & governance knowledge & solutions. #justsayin #consocsci #marsocsci

If you haven't yet, absolutely find the time to watch @peopleprimate's webinar on #DecolonizingPrimatology. There are important questions we need to face! It's time to de-center & listen to local voices

Great talk by the 1st speaker for the #DecolonizingPrimateConservation webinar, @andriant_seheno, who encourages us all to "decolonize our conservation conversations" @peopleprimate

“How can you work in an area where there’s lots of needs & not contribute something. Science could lead to contributions down the road, but if there’s not some immediate short-term pay-off to people can you ethically sleep well at night?” ~ @MGurven

Hi @AmAnthroJournal. This is an opportunity to listen to listen & accept that a problematic decision was made. It is a time to apologize & make certain that Indigenous scholars are heard & welcome in a field that has not been welcoming. Let's make good change! How can I help?

As a social scientist who studies environmental issues, I cannot think of a conservation or environmental management practice that does not have a history of colonialism, racism, displacement, dispossession & violence. We must do better. #blacklivesmatter #Indigenouslivesmatter

A real concern for primatologists right now is how being in proximity to primates & the associated practice of #provisioning is likely very dangerous for primates in the COVID-19 era. This article addresses this issue at my field site in S. Sulawesi. mongabay.co.id/2020/05/10/pan…

Usually macaques must spend most of their day foraging for their food. But, in the case of some lucky rhesus macaques (M. mulatta) in Nepal, food is handed to them by locals at Swayambhunath stupa! #InternationalMacaqueWeek youtube.com/watch?v=89ymGa…
