Something I’ve realized being a new parent: everyone has opinions about the “right way” to do things. There’s a lot of noise and it’s overwhelming. It’s exactly the same in tech. So many tools and opinions. Find what works best for you/your team. Ignore the noise.
After 27 years, Microsoft is officially shutting down the Internet Explorer Browser this week.
Recruiter: What's your salary range? You: What's the salary range budgeted for this role? *Recruiter gives range and you say a number* OR You: I'm targeting a salary of X0,000 (And don't say anything. Don't say a range, don't quiver. Stay silent and let them respond)
lol yc told me similar when i cited pew research about online harassment. “pfft nobody believes in pew research, but if you crawled some youtube comments data and ran your own analysis, then that’s interesting”

wow this tweet gave me like 300 new followers over the last day. i mean i have a lot of shitty silicon valley sexism stories to share, if that’s the ticket to building a following On Here lol
can confirm, i have been the female interviewer that was totally dismissed or ignored multiple times. bummer was when hiring managers rejected my feedback on this / told me it wasn’t salient…
Friendly reminder 💜
In software engineering, rabbit holes are inevitable. You'll research libraries, and not use them. You'll write code, just to delete it. This isn't a waste — sometimes you need to go down a few wrong paths, to get to the right one.
I'm giving a tech talk next week on 5 ways to improve your company's technical interview, but here are 5 tips for candidates: 1. Admit what you don't know It's better to say "I'm not sure. If I had to guess..." or "I don't have experience with X" than BS your way through it.
If I can offer an observation, 20+ years into my software career: Long term, your kindness and helpfulness are vastly more impactful than your technical skills. People will remember how you made them feel. They're much less likely to remember that awesome function you wrote.
Hey, men who are with women. Ever say things like… “Have you seen the …” “Tell me what to do and I’ll do it” “But I do so much around here” “Why didn’t you ask me to do it?” “I do more than my friends” “Let me know if I can help” Then let’s talk about mental load. 1/
this is very graphic and viscerally upsetting, but it feels worse to look away…

when presented with a broken system, you can (1) learn to navigate the broken system (2) try to fix the broken system (or both) if you are asking people for advice, be clear on what it is you want to do!
it's been about 4 years since i quit my last full-time job before pursuing a career change, cut to now and my salary has almost tripled. i think more than the salary, what brings me the most pride is doing a job that hs or college me would have never considered an option.
on the pink carpet and amongst heroes at the @TIME gala tonight ❤️ happy international women’s day
Don’t forget 💜💜💜

the best part of being on the @TIME women of the year list is making my mom proud 💖 the next best is the incredible honor of being in the company of these amazing women, all working towards a more equal world they are all heroes to me 👇🏻 time.com/collection/wom…
We need to start normalizing that software engineering can be a 9-to-5 job. It's ok to not live, eat, and breathe tech 24/7. It's ok to be in tech bc it's a lucrative job that pays the bills. You don't need to be passionate about tech to be in tech.
the level of harassment here is insane. thank you taylor for your work & for continuing to highlight these issues so that things might get better
let’s not forget how the treatment of japanese americans during WWII literally helped no one
