Thanks to ESTRO for providing important context to the PROSPECT study.

Communication presenting scientific facts should be well balanced with headlines that inform rather than alarm.#ASCO2023 @ESTRO_RT #radonc

This type of marketing of protons doesn't instill confidence in our field IMO. The site is aptly titled askforprotons.com On it, there is a quiz w 4 questions (age, prior RT, tumor site), but no matter what answers you put, it tells you protons may be needed.

Treating patients with localized, solid tumors near critical organs in the body? Target them with proton therapy, reducing side effects now and in the future.

Doctors at a major US insurance company deny tens of thousands of claims a month without even looking at patients’ files. “We literally click & submit,” a former Cigna doctor told @ProPublica & @Capitol_Forum. “It takes all of 10 seconds to do 50 at a time.” The inside story 🧵

I remember breaking down to my Ph.D. advisor about how stupid I felt while troubleshooting a problem in my project when she handed me this paper. Years later it is still relevant to young students starting off in Science. It's ok to feel stupid, we all do on a regular basis.

Over the last two decades, more school-age children have died from guns than on-duty police officers and active duty military combined. Think about that. For God’s sake how much more carnage are we willing to accept?
