What do these #YAbooks have in common? They provided windows for me to better understand my students & the world around me. They provide mirrors for my students to feel acknowledged & valued. Books build empathy. #FReadom #txlege #txasl

When I train physically, mentally, spiritually, I can’t get stronger unless I challenge myself. How can I not expect the same when I want to be a better friend, leader, teacher-librarian, and citizen? Discomfort is necessary for growth #txlege #FReadom #txasl

I loved the 57 Bus by Dashka Slater. It narrates a real life hate crime and the consequences for all involved, but it also educates us about gender terms and acceptance for all people. It helps build empathy and understanding. What more can we ask of any book? #txlege #Freadom

I loved "Long Way Down" by @JasonReynolds83 because it painted such a vivid picture in so few words. I felt sympathy, anger, and fear with the words that Mr. Reynolds weaved together. It is beautiful. What YA book made a difference for you. #txlege #fREADom #diverseYA #readYA
