What do these #YAbooks have in common? They provided windows for me to better understand my students & the world around me. They provide mirrors for my students to feel acknowledged & valued. Books build empathy. #FReadom #txlege #txasl
When I train physically, mentally, spiritually, I can’t get stronger unless I challenge myself. How can I not expect the same when I want to be a better friend, leader, teacher-librarian, and citizen? Discomfort is necessary for growth #txlege #FReadom #txasl
I loved They Called Us Enemy by @GeorgeTakei bc it tells the truth about a part of our history that isn’t talked about enough. If we don’t teach it, we could repeat it. #txlege tell me ur fave #YA #books #FReadom
I loved the 57 Bus by Dashka Slater. It narrates a real life hate crime and the consequences for all involved, but it also educates us about gender terms and acceptance for all people. It helps build empathy and understanding. What more can we ask of any book? #txlege #Freadom
I loved Long Way Down by @JasonReynolds83 bc it shows how gun violence can effect families and the aftermath of a loss of a family member. What #book made an impact on u @TXlege #txlege #freadom
One of my favorite YA books is The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo because It is a powerful story about family, relationships, and feminism-and it’s in verse! I support the #FReadom to read! #txledge What YA book made a difference for you?
I love these books because after being beaten for reading, my ancestors can freely read through my eyes! Asé. #txlege #FReadom
I loved AMAL UNBOUND by Aisha Saeed, and read this in a 5th grade book club a few years ago. It helped myself and my students to learn about injustices in other parts of the world #FReadom #txlege
Yaaassss! The graphic novel even makes this feeling-full book even more accessible! #txlege #FReadom
I loved "Long Way Down" by @JasonReynolds83 because it painted such a vivid picture in so few words. I felt sympathy, anger, and fear with the words that Mr. Reynolds weaved together. It is beautiful. What YA book made a difference for you. #txlege #fREADom #diverseYA #readYA
“Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe” by @BenjaminASaenz was a book I wish I had as young reader - the undeniable bond of friendship and being your authentic self. What a powerful window for my soul! #txlege #FReadom @O2CMBOCESSLS
Legendborn is an awesome, diverse fantasy novel that tells history from multiple perspectives and provides a beautiful twist to the Arthur legend. #txlege #freadom
I loved @JasonReynolds83 & @DrIbram 's Stamped. The most conversational & accessible black history book I've encountered for young adults & adults alike. #FReadom #txlege
