Nick Catoggio is the greatest political writer of our times. Here he is spitting fire in the wake of the Trump victory. thedispatch.com/newsletter/boi…
I'm cautious about sayihg what I really feel right now, especially on this platform, because I know it would be mocked. And that, itself, is a symptom of what I see, the glee that many now take in other Americans' sadness and fear. We are remaking ourselves in his image.
For her. For all our daughters and sons. For America. 🇺🇸
Lawyer who worked with Sidney Powell in Donald Trump’s plot to seize power after losing reelection in 2020 cries foul at suggestion Trump might try to manipulate this election, too today.westlaw.com/Document/Ied41…)
Elon Musk puts his money where his mouth is. He not only supports someone for president who attempted to seize power; he’s not only donated $75 million+ to support Trump; he’s also tricked people into campaigning for Trump, transports them around in a U-Haul, and fired them.
NEW: Black canvassers Elon Musk’s America PAC were tricked, threatened, and driven in seatless U-Haul vans. They were then fired after WIRED reported on their plight—without full pay or a way back home. scoop from @JakeLahut: wired.com/story/canvasse…
Trump said Cheney should be put before a military tribunal, and yet a bunch of people want to sit here and parse out if he “merely” fantasized about Cheney facing off with 9 rifles pointing at her, as if that matters. What’s wrong with all of you? cnn.com/2024/07/02/pol…
This exactly. If you want to argue that he didn’t say throw her in front of firing squad, but instead drop her in front of a squad firing, go right ahead. But it’s not the defense you think it is.
This is how dictators destroy free nations. They threaten those who speak against them with death. We cannot entrust our country and our freedom to a petty, vindictive, cruel, unstable man who wants to be a tyrant. #Womenwillnotbesilenced #VoteKamala
Trump on Liz Cheney: "Let's put her with a rifle standing there with 9 barrels shooting at her. Let's see how she feels about it. You know, when the guns are trained on her face."
Scoop: Washington Post editor at large Robert Kagan confirms to me that he resigned from the Post following today's decision not to endorse in the presidential race.
Opinion staff at WaPo are furious about the paper's endorsement decision. Several are contemplating what action to take, ranging from resigning, quitting the board, or a statement. "If you doin't have the balls to own a newspaper, don't," one Post opinion employee tells me.
There’s bad takes, and then there’s this. Someone will have to invent a new word to represent the depths of shit this take plumbed.
To focus on Elon Musk's politics is to exhibit a ridiculous monomania that, among other things, badly misunderstands the wages of genius. Musk is a weirdo, yes. Most visionaries are. It's the least important thing about them. nationalreview.com/2024/10/the-vi…
I know this isn’t actually important because Charles Cooke told me so. Anyone concerned about Musk’s descent into madness, and coordination with Vladimir Putin, is exhibiting ridiculous monomania.
"Putin asked Elon Musk to avoid activating his Starlink satellite internet service over Taiwan as a favor to Xi Jinping" is a real sentence in the WSJ story that just dropped. Rather concerning! wsj.com/world/russia/m…
Prominent members of the right-wing media elite touted John Kelly’s ability as White House chief of staff to impose discipline on then-President Donald Trump and prevent the nation from falling into chaos. Now, Kelly is publicly describing the former president as a fascist bent…
The spin here is that Trump is.... unaware that the Nazis were bad?
Fox host Brian Kilmeade justifies Trump wanting German generals Kilmeade: I can absolutely see him go it'd be great to have German generals that actually do what we ask them to do, maybe not fully being cognizant of the third rail of German generals who were Nazis or whatever
When a former Trump official comes out with a story demonstrating Trump’s unfitness for office, nihilistic Trump defenders leap into action, questioning the motives, context, or credibility of the individual making the claim. They’re doing this right now with General Kelly.
If only the president who systematically convinced his supporters that the election he lost was fraudulent so he could seize power and end our republic, would admit what he did, then he would be winning this election. - Guy Benson
He lost & the disgraceful Capitol riot was overwhelmingly comprised of his hardest-core supporters, to whom he’d peddled lies for weeks. He’d likely be (relatively) comfortably ahead right now if he’d accepted that reality.
This guy has credulously repeated piles of the most obvious RW propaganda ever since he made his heel turn. He's in no position to tell anyone about critical thinking.
🚨ELON MUSK: "I think teaching kids critical thinking is very important. It's a mental firewall. Teach them the types of fallacies and forms of trickery they're likely to encounter. Immunize kids against propaganda. Basically, teach kids to be skeptical about what they're told."
It’s a good thing, as Charles Cooke wrote, that Musk’s conspiracy theories regarding January 6th, embrace of white nationalism, and bankrolling the Trump campaign is just some harmless eccentricities of an inventor. If it had real world impact, that would be concerning.
Closing the campaign on Jan. 6 being an inside job
*the night of the election, the president says he has won, and the election is being stolen. then organizes the GOP into manufacturing lies about made up irregularities so people believe it was stolen* this person: it’s the Democrats’ fault this happened
I remain unconvinced cheating happened But I'm begging partisans to understand that the appearance of it is just as bad, it undermines faith in the entire system You cannot shame people into having faith again, you must build processes that are credible *and look credible*
