Really good piece. "A society can afford its college professors radical freedom to dissent from social orthodoxies or it can demand conformity, but not both."
Mandatory DEI statements in higher education: Half of professors believe that they're ideological litmus tests. A large, mostly progressive faction wants to force their colleagues to complete them anyway. That seems disrespectful to me. theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…
It should be a major scandal that Congress ordered the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to provide a feasible pathway for licensing new reactors and instead of complying the NRC decided to make the regulatory approval process ***more burdensome***
I remember the early years of Mike Leach at Tech. Everyone said his offense was just “throwing a lot”, like Houston with Ware, or BYU with Detmer. But those of us close to it knew it was something truly innovative. Fluid. Adaptive. Maximizing space and speed. Thanks, Captain.
This is what I will always appreciate about him. In a sport that breeds generations of conformity, he had an outsider’s view that he never let go.
He was one of the weirdest people ever to coach football and football was better for it.
Forever one of the most innovative minds in history. Our entire department mourns the passing of Coach Leach.
He may be wrong on this, but it still doesn't salvage the LTV. 🤷♂️
No. Nooooooooooooooooooo. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
I don't think the OP is right, but this is definitely not correct. Anyone who grew up in Texas in the 80's and 90's knows this is wrong.
it’s funny how some people think new development is why kids can’t go anywhere when the real reason is that we built our entire society around cars instead of mobility that kids can use like walking, biking, and public transit
1. Thread: THE TWITTER FILES
I saw the third-best minds of my generation destroyed by Tankie Twitter, Jimmy Dore, Chapo Trap House, TrueAnon, the Quincy Institute, Brianna Joy Gray, Noam Chomsky, the DSA International Committee, and Dean Preston
WELCOME TO THE SHOW, JOSH JUNG!
Josh Jung is the second player in Rangers history to hit a home run in his first Major League at-bat. The only other to do it was Jurickson Profar on 9/2/12 at CLE.
In six years the Libertarian Party has gone from running two governors to being an alt-right troll farm.
Fearless Champion signing off Thank you Fearless for your 10 years of service to Texas Tech and countless memories. Enjoy your retirement with your past rider, Corey Waggoner and his wife Katelyn. #texastech #fearlesschampion #happyretirement #ttumaskedrider
Everyone freaking out about today's SCOTUS ruling in the EPA case needs to chill the heck out. No, the court did not say it's illegal to regulate fossil fuels. It said those regulations have to come *from Congress* and not just be made up by an executive branch agency. C'mon.
How'd we get to the point where articles labeled as "fact checks" are almost always not about the facts themselves and instead are about whether the facts are surrounded by the right context or vibes?
1. Government imposes complex tariffs on foreign producers 2. Government imposes prohibitive FDA regulations on foreign producers 3. Government has monopsony power in the market via WIC Very strong “we’re all trying to find the guy who did this” energy
"Solving problems" would require at some point being judged on the basis of having solved or not solved the problem. If you present the public with a series of problems that are inherently unsolvable, no one can ever say you failed.
It really makes you wonder why these people are legislators *at all* if this is their approach. It's literally arguing that their specific job, which they fight really hard to get, is useless at solving actual problems.
.@elonmusk’s buying @Twitter may be the best thing to happen to social media in years. The algorithm promotes audience capture and drives people toward extremes. It’s biased in favor of furthering biases. Taking the company private curtails incentives that impair free discourse.
