Look at the way the skirt on the left is both skimming and draping on her body vs the one on the right from PLT. That’s called the bias cut. It uses a LOT more fabric than just cutting a straight rectangle like the right.
Fabric has a grain line. Every textile, no matter the material or weave, needs to be cut a certain way or it won’t behave correctly on the body. It won’t curve, it won’t stretch, it won’t drape. But the way it needs to be cut isn’t always the most economical.
Fast fashion brands make your clothes fit terribly on purpose. They don’t care if you wear it, only that you buy it. If you buy something that literally just doesn’t “lay” flat on your body, that’s by design. They cut it terribly to save fabric/money. It’s not your body.
