What Happens When Libraries Stop Sharing Wi-Fi? | KQED
Free Wi-Fi has become a fixture of local debate around how to address homelessness in one pocket of San Francisco.
We were excited to see 'The Librarians' float at the 2023 Sydney Mardi Gras parade!
Most of our libraries have re-opened, and our staff have been working through the mountains of returned books like this one at East Coast Bays Library! (1/3)
Today I raised the concerns of many of my constituents about the defunding of Trove. Trove is an essential service that democratizes knowledge. I call on the government to step up and provide the National Library of Australia with the funding it needs.

When can I move in?
who wants to go with me to the Sleepy Cat bookshop in Berkeley
I present to you one of the best things I've done this year -- the Lazy Book Club. We're here, we're lazy, get used to it. Read more about it here: rachael-reads.weebly.com/blog/lazy-book…
96 days ago we started auto-renewals. 10,212 items have been renewed. 4,425 could have reached the max fine of $14. That may be $61,950 in fines. 298 of these can’t have fines yet, due to our grace period. Say $1 each for the rest. $67,439 potentially saved for members. Nice!
What an amazing idea!
So I simply cannot wait any longer to show off our students’ Adopt-a-Shelves!!! Some are still in progress, but the ones who have created their mini book displays completely by their own design have knocked it out of the park! Photos of individual shelves in 🧵
“It’s simply brilliant news." Authors, illustrators, & editors will be compensated for e-book & audiobook library borrowings for the first time following an announcement today from the Australian Government. You can read ALIA's full response here 👉bit.ly/3jcfofm
I had no money growing up. My dad was a labourer and my mum did everything to make ends meet. Men worked hard. Women worked miracles. But education was free. As was the local library. I knew books were my passport to a better life. #SupportLibraries
Storytime: For years there was a family of kids who would walk to my library. We knew things were rough at home and we tried to create a safe, validating, fun place for them (like so many others.) There were about 8 cousins, siblings, half-sibs, ages 5 to 16. Then lockdown hit.

“No one goes to the library anymore—” speak for yourself, brah. Library use has been steadily rising. Folks under forty use libraries in massive numbers. Libraries have become essential, all-purpose community centers.
I love public libraries because they are built on the principle that books are so important and so necessary to human flourishing that access to them cannot depend on your income.

Are you dreading Ohio's endless winter? We have a light therapy box available for public use on the first floor of Main Library. 🌞 Bonus: We added a charging station so you can boost your mood and your phone at the same time. 😁📱⚡️
This is something I’ve wondered when trying to gain skills. Great to see it analysed in depth.
