ADHD Autistic, trans with chronic illness

I didn’t even know that I was “semi-speaking” until I was told by a professional. I also have a poor understanding of what “normal” is considered to be. All I understood is that I wasn’t able to cope.

Something feels different. Pushing words out is harder. Thinking of words is harder and moments where I do speak I am having to work hard to say the words

AAC users, how do you deal with the telephone? Do you use AAC over the phone or use relay UK service? Not every organisation will allow email or text communication. #AAC #ActuallyAutistic #autistic

Don't be angry that more adults are seeking support with ADHD and Autism, be angry that they didn't get that support when they were children

"I knew that you had to be disabled as soon as you said the word 'ableism' because I've never heard a doctor say that before." What does that say about doctors? What does it mean for our patients?

People need to be trusted and believed when they say their body doesn't feel right, and it doesn't feel good, and something must be wrong. Fucking YEARS of this shit. YEARS. I'm tired and frustrated. And, it just keeps on happening to people every day.

Nondisabled people: "Why don't you get a job? You need to go to work." Disabled person: *Looks up from 8 hours on the phone with a variety of medical personnel* "Please take a number, I'll be with you after I manage all these people I oversee."

#ActuallyAutistic Is scripting masking? Is it helpful? I think it makes me come across less autistic as I have practised the conversation. Scripting can make me as anxious as the real thing

Why is it that uk doctors seem to be in agreement on treatments even though it’s not in line with NICE guidelines? Where are they getting their information from? They seem to have some internal secret guidelines they are following. It’s really frustrating. #askautistics

Disabled people, including autistic people, are being repeatedly failed by stressful and degrading benefits assessments and appeals. It shouldn’t be a fight. We support @scope's petition for disability benefits #WithoutTheFight: bit.ly/3mfRwoq
