THREAD. Sometimes the bias of the New York Times is so outrageous that it surprises even me. Because what the NYT did yesterday in its election coverage is so dangerous, I try my best to analyze it carefully below.
I noticed another fascinating thing in the SFPD docs. While SFPD talks a lot about “theft" in their press releases, they never mention wage theft, white collar crime, state tax evasion, or white collar crimes. They relentlessly talk about *some* crimes committed by *some* people.
One source who has an immunocompromised, high-risk daughter, whom I interviewed for a story, has just told me that her daughter caught Covid and was life flighted to the hospital in critical condition. This pandemic is still very real & still very, very scary for some.
RT if you want @POTUS to announce he’s canceling all student loan debt tomorrow!
Been thinking a lot about how covid has both shown how essential community is, and shown how little community so many folks have.
Retweet if you want President Biden’s ENTIRE Build Back Better agenda to pass. ✋ Proving a point.
I've seen beautiful images of families reuniting now that the visa ban has been lifted for vaccinated travelers. But there's still so much discrimination inherent in the US's immigration-Covid policy. It's defined by hypocrisy and a blatant antipathy for foreigners 1/6
Drivers have been outside 24/7 City Hall for over a month Today marks our 9th day on hunger strike But what are we fighting for? @NYTWA's debt relief plan with a city-backed medallion guarantee Here are some common misconceptions & facts about the plan🧵
Yesterday, a jury in a Washington federal court found that private prison operator GEO Group violated Washington’s minimum wage law by paying migrants detained at the Northwest ICE Processing Center $1/day to cook & clean.
I’m 53 hrs into this hunger strike. 53 hrs of a headache that never leaves, breathlessness from climbing a single flight of stairs, & pangs of hunger at the mere thought of food. But we’ll continue until we get a city-backed guarantee for our taxi drivers. As long as it takes.
That’s interesting. I got several calls to my office from Texas families saying your office wouldn’t help them get families out of Afghanistan so they were calling a Texas congressman instead.
This is horrifying. And wrong. America doesn’t leave Americans behind.
Texas and Florida account for over 40% of all COVID hospitalizations in the US. @GregAbbott_TX says the answer is “personal responsibility,” which is his way of not taking any. All the while Texas Republicans say nothing and watch. Politics over people. #txlege
Anti-maskers in TN threaten a doctor who testified that masks save lives. “The police are on our side. We know who you are! We’ll find you! You’ll never be allowed in public again!” Think about why extremists feel so confident cops are “on their side.”😳
So I can get arrested for defending the voting rights of Texans. Cool. What do I have to do to become a powerful Chairman, or placed on an ERCOT committee? #txlege
News: House Speaker @DadePhelan has signed civil arrest warrants for 52 House Dems still absent from the chamber. The warrants will be delivered to the House sergeant Wednesday AM, per a Phelan spox — texastribune.org/2021/08/10/tex… h/t @dallasnews for first breaking the news. #txlege

Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan signs arrest warrants for absent Democrats
The Texas Supreme Court earlier Tuesday ruled that Democrats who refuse to show up could be detained by law enforcement and brought back to the state Capitol.
Talked with a cop outside the grocery. She said shoplifting of food has gone up, and I said "That's sad—so many people have gotten desperate during the pandemic." And she said "Well it's mostly homeless people; I haven't caught many normal people stealing" ...
Gov. Abbott’s latest executive order is designed to turn Texans against each other and provoke fear of brown skinned people. How will police know which vehicles are transporting immigrants? The Biden Justice Department must sue to stop this illegal racial profiling.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has escalated his hardline approach on immigrants by ordering state troopers to pull over drivers transporting migrants. Abbott says it’s to slow COVID-19. Critics call that hypocritical — and fear he’s encouraging racial profiling. bit.ly/3x93Bzu
actually I have read it so I fixed your graphic for you
96% of Democrats were joint or co-authors of the 13th check bill. The Republicans that didn’t sign on: the House leadership team. If they really cared it—and the cost of living increases—would have passed. #txlege
Too bad y’all were missing to support our retired teachers during the #txlege Regular Session when the bill died in Calendars. The bill had 129 House members support it but some of those who didn’t support it were: -Bonnen -Burrows -Metcalf -Meyer -Murphy -Murr -Oliverson
