The FNIH comparison of leading Alzheimer's blood tests is now published. Tests were from C2N, Fujirebio, ALZPath, Janssen, Roche and Quanterix. Plasma %p-tau217/p-tau217 best predicted amyloid and tau PET, brain volumes, and dementia. #ENDAlz #FNIH alz-journals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/al…

In adults without cognitive impairment and with low brain Aβ levels, a blood test combining p-tau217 and Aβ42/40 better predicted longitudinal changes in brain Aβ load than individual biomarkers. ja.ma/4dM62xd @biofinder_study

New large study finds COVID may increase risk of heart attacks and strokes three years after infection. Unlike other infections, the elevated heart risks from infection did not appear to diminish over time, a striking finding that the researchers say is "unique to COVID."

“The intervention comprises components such as psychoeducation, strengthening routine, light therapy, increased activity, exercise, and carer support. It is tailored to the needs of people with dementia and their relatives.”

Happy to share one of my very favorites of our new papers: nature.com/articles/s4139… Early presence of Alzheimer's MRI patterns relate to cardiovascular, immune, and neurondocrine systems, subsequent progression relates to APOE4, tau, amyloid Led by @JunhaoWen

“The research team scrutinized the autophagy process in astrocytes and discovered that when toxic protein buildup or inflammation occurs in the brains of AD patients, astrocytes respond by inducing genes that regulate autophagy.”

“The treatment suppressed p-tau by 1/2 to 3/4, while lowering t-tau to the levels in wild-type mice. Dendritic arborization & spine density returned to wild-type levels as well. Neurons stopped dying, and neuronal calcium responses and neurogenesis bounced back to normal.”

A chimeric peptide that recruits protein phosphatase 1 to tau lowered phospho-tau and total tau in the brain and restored synapses in two tauopathy mouse models. #alzheimersdisease @HuazhongUST ow.ly/oASe50TFfZa

“The study provides a new perspective on the involvement of inflammatory markers in the aging process & the development of Alzheimer’s disease, implying that regulating inflammation may have a pivotal role in promoting successful aging & in the prevention … of Alzheimer’s.”

Cai et al. measure plasma inflammatory markers over 10 years in people with preclinical Alzheimer’s disease, and show that changes relative to controls in complement C3, IL-1β and IL-6 are associated with Alzheimer’s disease development. tinyurl.com/3b9kdcdh
