Racial and ethnic minorities are underrepresented in politics. In this new article in @BJPolS, Kåre Vernby, @NazitaLajevardi and I investigate one potential cause: expected discrimination. We find that minorities in both the US and Sweden expect to feel less welcome in politics.

Climate change particularly important to Swedes in EU elections. @moamsson on the outlook for this summer’s EU elections. uu.se/en/news/2024/2…
Our new @WEPsocial article unveils that oppositional behavior in EU affairs is driven by two parallel dynamics: the distance between a party and elite actors on the EU dimension, as well as the distance between a party and voters & supporters on the classic left-right dimension.

In our new @JCMS_EU's article @moamsson, @Thomas_Persson_ & I examine whether oppositional behavior in #EU affairs is gendered. We find female MPs match opposition levels of male MPs, except in government parties where the gender gap widens. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…

Great to see @jepp_journal promote my latest article (co-authored with @Thomas_Persson_ @CKarlsson_UU, and @moamsson) in which we argue that both institutional factors and party characteristics drive parliamentary opposition to the EU on their blog: jepp-online.com/2023/02/driver…
Great to see our new book in print. Many thanks to my hardworking co-editors and to our brilliant chapter authors.
Happy to see this paper out in @jepp_journal: Greater institutional reciprocity in national social protection systems is associated with lower opposition to EU labour immigration among economically vulnerable groups @moamsson @MarcusOsterman @MPC_EUI tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…
How do institutional factors and party characteristics shape parliamentary opposition in EU politics? In a new paper by @CKarlsson_UU @FelixLehmann97 @moamsson and myself we use data from five countries to explore this. Now on early view in @jepp_journal tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…
My department @UU_PoliSci just published a denunciation of the Iranian regime's violence & oppression against the student protests in Iran. We demand that security forces leave the universities & release all arrested students immediately. See our website: statsvet.uu.se.
In this new article, @Thomas_Persson_, @moamsson & I find that while MPs in all legislatures express more opposition in the plenary than the committee, the propensity for oppositional behavior is more pronounced in “debating” than “working” parliaments. doi.org/10.1093/pa/gsa…
Speaking of opposition. In a new #ParliamentaryAffairs piece @CKarlsson_UU , @moamsson and I compare plenary and committee behaviour in five national parliaments, including @HouseofCommons and @Bundestag 👇 academic.oup.com/pa/advance-art…
