If you know the research and science, now it's to make those changes in your instruction. It is overwhelming, and you will not learn it all at once. It is a journey, and you'll be making such a difference in all of your students' lives. #knowbetterdobetter
It is incredible how much I've learned and changed my instruction over the last few years. I have aligned my instruction with the body of research called the science of reading. Here are a few things teachers can say goodbye to in 2023 👋 #sor #knowbetterdobetter #NewYear
I have used a TAP it, Map it, Zap it, but using it with word chains is next level! Thank you for sharing this @liv2learn @pattanupdates @pattanliteracy Such a fantastic instructional tool!
Yes! Check out this interactive resources to learn more about #dyslexia. I was one of those teachers who didn't know enough. docs.google.com/presentation/d…
Everyone knows about dyslexia But not everyone knows enough about dyslexia
It is hard change, but we need to look at what is best for ALL our students and not what is easy for us. We are a profession and we need to aligne our instruction with research and not our beliefs.
Paying attention to the word's spelling is critical for learning how to read and spell those tricky sight words. I guess that means we should stop sending home lists of words for students to memorize and help them understand the words spelling. #structuredliteracy #SoR @dccolen
Can totally relate to Missy at the end of ep 5! Cried big tears a few times, especially when you mention feedback you get from students. Thank you! This podcast will change lives! Everyone must hear your message!

For our #dyslexic students & struggling students is there a point? "Copying task involves looking up at the board, reading and then holding the information in their head and then writing it." dyslexiaparents.blogspot.com/?m=1 Another great post from @i_am_dyslexicau
Emotional tweet. I had my son's IEP meeting. I cried because he is getting the evidence-based intervention, teachers who understand dyslexia & #sor He is in G6 & 2nd year in a private school. This is WHY I advocate for #sor & #dyslexia We change lives & brains with instruction!
"Reading with their ears?" Yes!!! Working on intensive literacy support with students one-on-one has shown me just how important phonemic awareness is (along with phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency etc.) reallygreatreading.com/six-layers-pho…

What Is Phonemic Awareness?

Tip of the day: Make sure to not add /uh/ at the end of consonants when teaching the sound they spell. Give students immediate correction and feedback if they do. Otherwise we are setting the kids up for struggles with reading and spelling. Sound accuracy matters.
Why handwriting is so important...yet often not taught explicitly.
Reading words with our Grade 7/8 buddies today using the @UFLiteracy Roll and Read activity that goes with our latest lesson! They also helped us with handwriting of our newest letter, followed by dialogic reading. It’s so valuable for every kid to have this 1:1 time each week.
Well, continuing with re-sharing my LEGO content. Here's some great ELA activities you can do with LEGO blocks. Great for three dimensional thinkers!
