I'm old enough to remember Bari Weiss complaining about "self-censorship" at the Times, at how politically sensitive pieces could run "only after every line is carefully massaged, negotiated and caveated," and at how pretextual complaints about a story not being "strong enough"…
Here's what Bari Weiss said on the CBS 9am call, per a source who transcribed it: "I want to say something about trust: our trust for each other and our trust with the public. The only newsroom I’m interested in running is one in which we are able to have contentious…
A meta-comment on the Robert E. Lee discourse. Weirdly, I think a lot of people don't realize what slavery actually WAS. What I mean by this isn't that they don't know it was wrong-- literally nobody in legitimate discourse is saying "it was good people owned slaves".
Folks, birthright citizenship isn't just some interpretation of a few weirdly phrased passages in the 14th Amendment. We had birthright citizenship BEFORE the 14th Amendment. It's actually one of the oldest and most fundamental principles of American law. 1/
This is the most rigorously Christian writing I’ve seen about this entire degraded mess. nytimes.com/2025/12/05/opi…
The actual emails are more startling than the NY Times gloss.
Yeah, so this isn't true.
Idk if ya’ll realize how unprecedented this is. This has NEVER happened in the history of the modern world.
(JD Vance on the jury at the nuremberg trials) So we’re crucifying these kids for running an uncomfortable summer camp?
Not sure why the markets are reacting negatively to the tariffs when Trump has clearly said he’s secured $17 trillion in new investments?
This is a VERY well-crafted lawsuit: 1) Plaintiff is natural born 2) He was detained 2X in a fast-growing part of Alabama, not in a city that Brett Kavanaugh could be easily duped into believing was all migrants 3) Unwarranted detentions were on private property 4) He showed…
You can read @IJ's full complaint in Venegas v. Homan below. DHS officials arrested American citizen Leo Venegas TWICE without justification and despite his presentation of REAL ID (which Sec. Noem has been airing creepy Big Brother style videos about). ij.org/wp-content/upl…

I remain impressed that this presidency is going worse than even my sensible progressive friends predicted. The only thing going better is fewer deportations. Huge tariffs, cuts in vital foreign aid, violations of the rule of law, massive corruption, and attacks on mRNA vaccines.
August 7, 2025: Trump calls for the resignation of Intel's CEO ("no other solution"), calls him "highly conflicted" 15 days later: Intel CEO agrees to give Trump and the US government 10% of the company, Trump calls him "highly respected" Totally normal stuff
They're bragging about how much they're taxing Americans, which is, I gotta say, something I've literally never seen a politician do.
WELCOME TO THE GOLDEN AGE ✨ Thanks to the leadership of @POTUS, the U.S. has generated over $150B in tariff revenues within the past 6 months. 💸
95% of people who lost coverage when Arkansas instituted "work requirements" had jobs. You have to look at what policies *do*, not what they are *called*.
Rep. Andy Harris: "Look, if you're able-bodied without dependents and you choose not to work, well, you shouldn't be on a public welfare program. That's the bottom line ... you should be off the public dole. Yes, you will lose your Medicaid coverage. Get a job."
One thing that’s genuinely novel to me about this tax bill is that at least three major models have “dynamic” scoring estimates — estimates that account for subsequent economic growth — finding the bill to be more, not less, expensive, because higher interest costs slow growth
for the record I think the ruling against Trump’s tariffs is obviously correct but I don’t have a ton of faith it will survive the rest of the judicial system
"We all have our breaking points. For some of us, it’s when people kill millions of children. For others, it’s when they exclude cool companies from 4% electric vehicle rebates." holy shit I would go crawl in a hole and die astralcodexten.com/p/sorry-i-stil…
Lilo & Stitch (2025) review: it didn't occur to me before that "spreading misinformation about Medicaid" is a problem a Disney live-action adaptation could possibly have
The pipeline of skilled immigration in this country is something like this: Student visa -> H-1B/OPT ->Green card, with the occasional J visa thrown in the middle. The Trump administration is knocking out the student visa link, undermining all skilled immigration.
even Fox News is having a hard time spinning Trump's first 100 days
