How does our brain excel at complex object recognition, yet get fooled by simple illusory contours? What unifying principle governs all Gestalt laws of perceptual organization? We may have an answer: integration of learned priors through feedback. New paper with Ken Miller! 🧵

🚨We believe this is a major step forward in how we study hippocampus function in healthy humans. Using novel behavioral tasks, fMRI, RL & RNN modeling, and transcranial ultrasound stimulation (TUS), we demonstrate the causal role of hippocampus in relational structure learning.

📢 We have a new notebook that demoes DPAD (@NatureNeuro 2024) in public neural-behavioral data from start to finish, answers FAQs, & gives best practice tips! Check it out! 🔗 Link is in the repo: github.com/ShanechiLab/DP… 🙌 Thanks @Vahidi_Parsa & @MaryamShanechi! Paper 🧵⬇️
Excited that our paper made the cover of @NatureNeuro! We developed DPAD, an AI framework for dynamical modeling of neural-behavioral data and dissociating behaviorally relevant neural dynamics. 📜nature.com/articles/s4159… 💻github.com/ShanechiLab/DP… 👏@omidsani
The central visual field not only benefits from a denser sampling in retina and a higher cortical magnification factor, but also enjoys more top-down feedback along the visual pathway to aid visual recognition. See psychophysics evidence tinyurl.com/mfxwk5wk
