Love that this is the first I've seen someone articulate this very true fact that you should read more than just fanfiction esp if you want to be a better writer without shitting on fanfiction for existing. Cause you would be equally limited if you only read like, biographies.
also reading books helps. a lot of fandom writing in particular is all basically the same style of prose so you don't learn that much from it

back when people were seriously saying “this character needs to take accountability for”/“[character] needs to be held accountable” how are the characters going to do that 🥴
You can tell when books are written with the hopes of being turned into movies / shows and even when the book isn’t bad at all, it’s such a disappointing experience to read a book that wants to be a script
It's so funny to be a Southeast Asian bc we say "yes the West's perception of China is tainted by anti communists propaganda and Chinese people are normal" while also having to say "China violating maritime SEAsian territories and Taiwanese statehood is bad actually"
