Here's a fun challenge from youcubed.org: "How many different rectangular prisms can you make using 1 cube, 2 cubes, 3 cubes and onwards to 30 cubes?"
The answer most people think of first is not correct: "At six o'clock the wall clock struck 6 times. Checking with my watch, I noticed that the time between the first and last strokes was 30 seconds. How long will the clock take to strike 12 at midnight?"
Here's a great puzzle, from a great book of puzzles: The Moscow Puzzles, by Boris Kordemski. I sometimes give students shower curtain rings to help them work out the answer.
Here's another fun, quick riddle: "When my father was 31, I was 8. Now he is twice as old as I am. How old am I?" #mathed
