oooohhh...name dropping @HeliFromFinland and @KentGraziano in a single call!

It's been awhile Twitter. Please be patient while I relearn how to navigate.

Pondering how the "data dictionary" came to be...i.e. what drove the idea behind storing the metadata of the data. Who's got insight? @CaryMillsap @oraclebase @TimGormanTech @DBAKevlar @krisrice @JLOracle /me leaves off a lot of people unintentionally...

Just starting out? Lots 'o questions? I'm 20 years in, learning a whole new thing. I'm a newbie. How to ask questions the smart way. Read it. Internalize it. Ask questions, the *smart* way. I promise you'll find people who will *want* to help you. catb.org/~esr/faqs/smar…

Oh yeah, I remember now. I came to complain about @jackryanamazon saying, "I have an S.Q.L. query to solve this problem" or whatever nonsense. 1. He mispronounced it. It's "sequel." 2. He should have said federated query as it was 2 (or more) unrelated databases.

This gif applies to so many different scenarios: Spiders, Snakes, Data Modeling, whatever.

Kinda annoyed. > The rule is: Use an before a word beginning with a vowel sound (not letter). Tells me that the writer pronounces SQL wrong.

Tells me that the writer pronounces SQL wrong.

Interesting finding of the week. In AWS Redshift, if you issue a SELECT on a MV, you cannot issue a REFRESH MATERIALIZED VIEW because there's a lock on the underlying internal table. The SELECT *must* be followed by a COMMIT. Or just set AutoCommit=TRUE for your connection.

Dammit @CaryMillsap... I'm quoting this one, often, as well. carymillsap.blogspot.com/2011/01/axioma… My fav is the reply to @joelgarry

meanwhile, on Redshift... SELECT * FROM svv_table_info WHERE table = 'my_table'; [Amazon](500310) Invalid operation: syntax error at or near "table" My bad, "table" - thanks postgresql person who named a column with the reserved word "table" so now I have to quote it...

This applies to so many things: "...If spending 10 extra minutes formatting your data better saves 1,000 readers 2 minutes each, then you’ve saved the world 1,990 minutes of wasted effort..." - @CaryMillsap carymillsap.blogspot.com/2016/05/messed…

Very busy day on the Boston Marathon FB page today as they announced new tougher qualifying requirements:/ But a great day to tell them to #LetSamRace #LetThemRace If you have a few seconds let them know we are still fighting for #inclusion ! TIA

Yes!

I stopped this vehicle today for a left lane violation on I-65. The driver had approximately 20 cars slowed behind her because she would not move back to the right lane. Again...if there are vehicles behind you, you must move to the right lane to allow them to pass.
