The fealty some of these senators have to the filibuster is reprehensible The filibuster is, in a literal sense, anti-democratic. It exacerbates the *literal inequality of representation* baked into the Senate—21% of the population can block all legislation!
The subtext of this whole fight is the filibuster. Dems were winning the blame game and could have held out indefinitely, but they weren’t going to win adequate policy concessions from Trump — eventually Rs would’ve been forced to nuke. Fine by me, but many Senators disagree.
🚨 NEW: Rachel Reeves will use the Budget to impose a £2k-a-year limit on how much salary can go into a pension before paying National Insurance The move will raise £2bn and hit salary sacrifice schemes [@thetimes]
I saw the Washington Post editorial on redistricting today and this is my official response.

People (outside of tech) used to say "ChatGPT" to mean "an LLM chatbot", because most of the time, that's what it was. But recently I've been hearing a lot of "Gemini told me..." The writing is on the wall
I have a post on my to-do list that never quite gets to the top, so I'll just tweet it out. Unfortunately, for Georgists, property tax revolts always arise when property taxes become more Georgist (when property tax assessments rise due to land inflation).
🚨 JUST IN: Governor Ron DeSantis CONFIRMS Floridians will get to vote on officially abolishing PROPERTY TAXES statewide so they don't pay rent to the government "We have a tax base of people who aren't Florida residents! Shouldn't we want THEM to pay? And OUR people to have…
BREAKING: Pope Leo XIV is set to effectively disband Opus Dei in the coming weeks. This would be the most sweeping internal reform of his pontificate — and a dramatic continuation of Pope Francis’s legacy. thelettersfromleo.com/p/new-pope-leo…
The EU still relies heavily on imported fossil fuels in most sectors. This does not have to be the case – the EU power sector has relatively low fossil reliance – just 19%. Electrification can increase EU energy security with homegrown wind and solar. ember-energy.org/latest-insight…
This is easily fixed. Make sure you have enough energy storage and/or use grid forming inverters. That is, it's a matter of poor planning and design rather than what type of generation you use. When I see somebody like Bjorn making comments about renewable energy generation,…
Spain is now openly worried about voltage swings caused by renewables Although they tell us Spain's blackout wasn't because of renewables, "the conditions that led to it may be a persistent problem for the stability of Spain’s power network" Oops bloomberg.com/news/articles/……
I was not aware your property deed included perpetual rights to a fixed height limit of your choosing for all other properties within view of your home. That’s kind of crazy actually.
Multiplex zoning in Burnaby is already proving to be a disaster. Four storey laneway houses, neighbours complaining. The City is now implementing significant reforms to curb height and density.
Genuinely the most enraging thing about housing discourse is how people talk about 'affordability' like it's some sort of innate quality, like the building needs to be made out of affordium. Housing. is. affordable. when. housing. is. abundant. Supply and demand are real.
"No matter how many houses you build, if they are not affordable, then you will not solve the housing crisis." @ZackPolanski at our @TWT_NOW panel on why we need to take on the profiteers and the corporate giants to win homes for people.

Grid scale batteries are changing our electricity system. Excellent new visual story on batteries in FT today shows just how far this technology has evolved. Fasten your seatbelts, this is just the beginning. ig.ft.com/mega-batteries/
finally, an in depth article about how absurd free parking is in NYC. fun fact: NYC has ~3 million free parking spaces. if each one had a meter that charged 50 cents per hour and was occupied 75% of the time, it would raise $10 billion dollars every year
if u have more than 30 years to retirement u should be 100% in SPY with zero bond allocation *even if* u are very risk averse. stop using target date funds
