What is the relationship between firm quality and health maintenance? Cool new paper by my coauthors @AnikoBiro17 and Péter Elek out in the Journal of Health Economics.

Working at a higher-paying firm isn’t just good for your wallet—it’s good for your health. Workers moving up get more check-ups, catch heart issues earlier, and (esp. men & older workers) need fewer mental health meds.

New paper with @talgross, @timothyjlayton and Julia Yates on how couples in the Medicare program choose their prescription drug plans out as a @TheIFS working paper.

Policy changes in Hungary tied maternity benefits more closely to earnings early in pregnancy. The result? A rise in reported earnings among women in small firms, suggesting that benefit design can influence tax behavior -> wrld.bg/g2vS50Vp92c

We have a new blog with @AnikoBiro17, Péter Elek (@HunRenKrtkKti) summarizing our recent @WorldBank @wb_research working paper. We show that the reported earnings and employment of pregnant women respond strongly to incentives embedded in the design of maternity benefits.

How can the design of maternity benefits affect women’s reported earnings during pregnancy? New research from Hungary shows that linking benefits to recent earnings may incentivize formal reporting—especially in smaller firms blogs.worldbank.org/en/development…

Important work by @YunanJi and @parker_rog showing that price cuts in healthcare reduce innovation and worsen product quality.

Medicare price cuts reduced innovation, increased outsourcing, and worsened product quality, underscoring the need to balance short-term cost containment with long-term impacts, from @YunanJi and @Parker_rog nber.org/papers/w33083

Amazing paper by @YunanJi and @parker_rog on the impact of government price cuts on innovation in medical technologies out as working paper. When Medicare reduced reimbursements for durable medical equipment, innovation decreased and outsourcing increased.

🚨 What happens when the gov't cuts prices on medical technologies? New research (w/ @YunanJi) finds a 61% price cut led to: 75% drop in innovation (may fully offset savings) 49% fewer new firms 28% more production moved overseas 3x repair/replacement rate 🧵(1/n)
