masks are like bulletproof vests: if you have to be somewhere with bullets flying around, you'd rather be wearing a vest than not. but if society is set up so that you can't go anywhere without getting hit by bullets, the solution is changing society, not individual vest wearing.

We need better trains in the US. Flying needs to stop being the only reasonable option.
Given climate collapse, we should really be questioning if flying is a necessary activity, especially if you're only going to be in your destination for a few days.

OH MY GOD. I am terrified for everyone. I have long posted about how my kids’ pediatrician keeps getting Covid. In April, she was out with her 4th-5th Covid infection for over a month. She coughed for months. I just learned she is out with Covid AGAIN. We are so doomed.

I have zero qualms about SJP being a judge since she did the work and was clearly committed. But I do think NYT's choice to give the winner 4 minutes and SPJ is 10 minutes is...a choice. I want to hear about the other Booker judges now! Do some of them do this every year?
