If you thought the story of Frankenstein was intense, wait until you hear about the life of its author. Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley’s personal life was fraught with death, life, and a summer of volcanic ash. Buckle up. 🧵⬇️

masks are like bulletproof vests: if you have to be somewhere with bullets flying around, you'd rather be wearing a vest than not. but if society is set up so that you can't go anywhere without getting hit by bullets, the solution is changing society, not individual vest wearing.

This is common, mask up on airplanes!!

Shoutout to the lady I sat next to on the flight out of Philly who told me when we landed 6 hours later that she was so glad she made it through the flight with this fever she's been fighting.

Might start responding to “Why are you wearing a 😷?” with “We’re in the USA. Haven’t you seen how expensive it is to get sick here??”

You agree with him?

We need better trains in the US. Flying needs to stop being the only reasonable option.

Given climate collapse, we should really be questioning if flying is a necessary activity, especially if you're only going to be in your destination for a few days.

this thread outlines the horrors of where we're at with covid.

OH MY GOD. I am terrified for everyone. I have long posted about how my kids’ pediatrician keeps getting Covid. In April, she was out with her 4th-5th Covid infection for over a month. She coughed for months. I just learned she is out with Covid AGAIN. We are so doomed.

This is the New Normal everyone begged for. Good luck and Godspeed.

I have zero qualms about SJP being a judge since she did the work and was clearly committed. But I do think NYT's choice to give the winner 4 minutes and SPJ is 10 minutes is...a choice. I want to hear about the other Booker judges now! Do some of them do this every year?

Ms Rachel asked @nytimes not to cover the ridiculous accusations against her, they did so anyway. Legitimizing smear campaigns against anyone that is critical of Israel is not journalism, it’s propaganda.

when seeing a single other masked person in the airport feels like utter and total relief

Is anyone else tired of being the only masked person everywhere they go? 😣 I try to stay strong & positive but some days all the staring really gets to me 😥 I hate being the center of attention

Let’s say that the ‘sicker than you’ve ever been lasting for weeks’ illness isn’t covid. What has gone so wrong with your immune system that it can no longer effectively fight off a common cold?

You cannot, by any means, call a country where people go bankrupt simply for getting sick the “greatest country in the world.”

this city is about to become terrible for brownstone owners. You should definitely sell your brownstone before everything falls apart. Just go go go, sell as fast as you can, don't wait for a good price, just sell it before the mob burns it down
