Even though I’m a much better Python than JavaScript developer, with AI assistance, I’ve been writing a lot of JavaScript code recently. AI-assisted coding, including vibe coding, is making specific programming languages less important, even though learning one is still helpful…

I quite like the idea using games to evaluate LLMs against each other, instead of fixed evals. Playing against another intelligent entity self-balances and adapts difficulty, so each eval (/environment) is leveraged a lot more. There's some early attempts around. Exciting area.

Perfect timing, we are just about to publish TextArena. A collection of 57 text-based games (30 in the first release) including single-player, two-player and multi-player games. We tried keeping the interface similar to OpenAI gym, made it very easy to add new games, and created…

Projects like OpenAI’s Operator are to the digital world as Humanoid robots are to the physical world. One general setting (monitor keyboard and mouse, or human body) that can in principle gradually perform arbitrarily general tasks, via an I/O interface originally designed for…

Huge congrats to @AIatMeta on the Llama 3.1 release! Few notes: Today, with the 405B model release, is the first time that a frontier-capability LLM is available to everyone to work with and build on. The model appears to be GPT-4 / Claude 3.5 Sonnet grade and the weights are…

We'll be closer to human-level AI when we have systems that can: - understand the physical world - remember and retrieve appropriately - reason - set sub-goals and plan hierarchically But even once we have systems with such capabilities, it will take a while before we bring them…

A system that gains memories from one event, develops novel plans consistent with constraints, understands the implications of a changed environment, & reasons about new circumstances—without regular dumb goofs showing there’s no real world model & reasoning behind the curtain

To people who claim that "thinking and reasoning require language", here is a problem: Imagine standing at the North Pole of the Earth. Walk in any direction, in a straight line, for 1 km. Now turn 90 degrees to the left. Walk for as long as it takes to pass your starting point.…

Here's my conversation with Yann LeCun (@ylecun) about AI, importance of open source, limits of LLMs, why AI doomers are wrong, and the path to AGI. This was a fun and fascinating technical conversation! It's here on X in full, and is up on YouTube, Spotify, and everywhere else.…

If you have a certain combination of naïveté and self-delusion, you might think that superhuman AI is just around the corner. It wasn't true in 2016. And it's still not true today. If you have a bit of a superiority complex, you might think that you will be the one producing…

Cute idea: generating the weights of a neural net through a diffusion model.

Neural Network Diffusion Diffusion models have achieved remarkable success in image and video generation. In this work, we demonstrate that diffusion models can also generate high-performing neural network parameters. Our approach is simple, utilizing an autoencoder and a…

Prompt engineering (or rather "Flow engineering") intensifies for code generation. Great reading and a reminder of how much alpha there is (pass@5 19% to 44%) in moving from a naive prompt:answer paradigm to a "flow" paradigm, where the answer is constructed iteratively.

We are one step closer to having AI generate code better than humans! There's a new open-source, state-of-the-art code generation tool. It's a new approach that improves the performance of Large Language Models generating code. The paper's authors call the process "AlphaCodium"…

for a long time i said that antisemitism, particularly on the american left, was not as bad as people claimed. i'd like to just state that i was totally wrong. i still don't understand it, really. or know what to do about it. but it is so fucked.
