The classic software startup writes code to solve users' problems. If AI makes writing code more of a commodity, understanding users' problems will become the most important component of starting a startup. But it already is.
Canceled my ChatGPT Pro subscription. As I mentioned earlier, I see AI as an employee. The best model gets hired, and the weak one gets fired.
AI doesn’t replace you. It just makes you better at doing things, but it doesn’t make you a better person. I see so much overexcitement about AI but never any excitement about being a better human being. Until AI codes kindness, let’s keep our own hearts updated.
Think about AI as an employee. A very cheap, intelligent employee.
I also like to think of LLMs as my employee that I assign tasks to. It’s an incredibly cheap employee for this level of intelligence. If a newer and more powerful model is released, I’ll fire the o1 Pro employee and hire the best one 😅 (Grok 3? Gemini?)
Just a brief perspective on ChatGPT o1 Pro
o1 Pro is highly superior for narrow more advanced problems and if it makes mistakes it adapts to fix them through more advanced “reasoning” and find a solution. Claude doesn’t go that far in my experience, but I also pay for Cursor+Sonnet for the average stuff in web dev and…
I used to really dislike Microsoft products. Then I discovered LinkedIn. Hell is a better place than LinkedIn. Then I found out it’s owned by Microsoft.

It’s cool when you and your friends are still young, and your kids are young. You’re all still in your sunrise. (📸 Bali island, 2023)
I bought chatgpt o1 Pro anyway and I was skeptical at first. It’s surprisingly good. Better than Claude Sonnet for complex coding and tasks. I’m using both for different contexts. Now, I think it’s amazing this level of intelligence only costs $200 a month 🤷♂️ the future is bright
Even AGI, ASI, or the singularity is just a continuation of human will. In a way, those things are deeply human.
Guitar is a therapy for programmers. Some daily practice prevents burnout.
I was going to tell my wife a flashy surfboard won’t make her a better surfer, but then I remembered MacBook M4 Max for web dev.
Happy new year! Stay strong, disciplined, happy, focused and enthusiastic.
Education teaches you the rules. The real world teaches you to break them.
You can just sustain a high level of physical and mental condition.
A dog’s greatest joy is that you can act silly around her, and instead of scolding you, she’ll join in the silliness herself.
If you’re not practicing in your underwear, it’s not a hobby, it’s professional, just like remote work.
Earlier this year I hit over 220 pounds after staying with my wife’s parents so they could enjoy time with their granddaughter. Her mom overfed me! The extra weight was annoying, so I lost it simply by working hard and drinking lots of coffee. Now need to gain it back 🤷♂️
Tom Morello playing Like a Stone with Chris Cornell. Goosebumps lasted for an hour when I heard the song for the first time.
