As a hard core user of Google Reader before they shut it down, I wholeheartedly agree. RSS is still a resilient model. Developers should build more apps and services around it.
For those just learning to code now- remember when you were learning to drive? You had to think about everything constantly- but eventually the car became an extension of yourself. That's how it will be. You will eventually have muscle memory built into many tasks. Stick with it.
The problem is much bigger than Facebook. It's the internet's economic model. It's the internet's surveillance model. Communicating, sharing, and accessing information shouldn't have to make you a commodity or target. You shouldn't be exploited for using the internet.
The most important thing you can do once you've reach the top is to send a ladder back down.

As a kid I wrote book reports on "Black Holes and Baby Universes" and "A Brief History of Time." I was in awe of how Stephen Hawking could fight through ALS and pursue his love of astrophysics. I found out he died this morning when I saw this piece of art. RIP Dr. Hawking.
