Virgin given permission to run Channel Tunnel trains. Virgin has a mixed record but breaking the Eurostar monoply is much needed. In Spain passenger numbers have increased substantially & fares fallen by 40% or more since competition was introduced. railwaypro.com/wp/?p=134085

New Oxford congestion charge signs to be amended after error
The signs advertising Oxford's new congestion charge say motorists can pay the fee "on line", instead of "online".
If you don't have a congestion charge permit, you have to pay within one day of passing though a permit point. The scheme launches tomorrow. There's no obvious way to pay. Permits can 10 days to process. The website runs slow. The customer helpline can take an hour to answer.
A quite beautiful response to the sort of gaslighting we’ve come to expect (from the usual suspects)…. 1/2
Wanted: drivers with amazing eyesight, to be able to read congestion charge signs.
Very sad to see Smith and Lowe selling up. This heritage business survived the LTNs, but being next to a congestion charge toll gate - they may be calling it a day at the right time. proplist.com/listing/conway…

We're going to keep placing in the public domain how OCC officers were aware that a new danger is being created by OCC, by putting a congestion charge filter in front of the Swan School. The more information we get, the more we'll publish. No one can say "we didn't know".

Mensaje de @Keir_Starmer, Primer Ministro del Reino Unido: "Hoy, para reavivar la esperanza de paz para palestinos e israelíes, y una solución de dos Estados, el Reino Unido reconoce formalmente al Estado de Palestina."
Today, to revive the hope of peace for the Palestinians and Israelis, and a two state solution, the United Kingdom formally recognises the State of Palestine.
The UK has recognised the State of Palestine. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has pledged to Palestinian and Israeli people that "there can be a better future".

It's even worse than that. OCC raced to install the congestion charge because they had contractual liabilities to the bus companies. OCC previously raced to approve the traffic filters before the price of the electric buses went up. The public are bystanders in all this.

Congestion charge decided 'behind closed doors'
Concerns are raised over the transparency of a decision to introduce a temporary congestion charge.
Sadiq Khan’s officials suppressed taxpayer-funded research that showed LTNs do not reduce car use TfL chose not to publish the study after it found the traffic relocation schemes helped increase cycling but failed to encourage people to use their cars less or walk more 🧵
Lambeth and Wandsworth are two neighbouring South London boroughs. Wandsworth has put in no recent LTNs. Lambeth has gone big on them. But it is Wandsworth that is performing better on just about every traffic metric.
Oxford's congestion charge is predicted to significantly reduce the amount of traffic in the city centre, where traffic is generally light - but also increase it on the city's outer edges, where traffic tends to be heavier. Cars will be affected, vans and lorries not.
£9,500 a month wasted! This morning I spoke on @BBCOxford about how the empty Eynsham Park & Ride site is costing almost £10,000 every single month on fencing, lighting, and security. With no clear plan for the access road, this waste could carry on for years. The County Council…
