The truth is if tensions with China escalate, there are dozens of fields the US would need to do a “Operation Warp Speed” on, but as long as 70% of the federal budget goes to interest payments and entitlements, that’s not happening. And that’s before you get to regulations.

I was curious to know how many times @NobelPrize laureates in physics were nominated before winning... so I wrote a little code to figure it out. Looks like the median is 17 but there is heavy tail. Incredible that Gell-Mann was nominated 129x before winning!
