This is an absolutely jaw-dropping view from a Hurricane Hunter crew member as their aircraft exited eyewall & entered eye of Category 5 Hurricane Melissa earlier today. Clear blue sky aloft, churning ocean waves below, "stadium effect" of eyewall are all stunningly apparent.

Fifth and final pass through Hurricane Melissa for our crew today. Just after noon entering from the NW corner exiting SE.

I would be more supportive of @GavinNewsom if he had been supportive of air + water quality issues at the CA border. My concern: he seems to "get it" for "richer" areas of California while ignoring 80 million+ gallons of sewage releasing toxic gases into air at the border?? Why?

Same with me. I grew up in the South on a farm and reading introduced me to a world far beyond my limited world of poverty and deprivation. I wanted to be a part of that wider world. Reading allowed me to hope and to dream. Books were my refuge from the storm of my invisibility.

I would rather not make a public appeal, but due to refusal of insurance to cover necessary medication for a rare condition, even though my doctor (discoverer of the condition, no less!) believes this specific drug is my best shot at stabilization, I'm doing so reluctantly.

Quick update: I have suddenly been struck down by a severe flare of my autoinflammatory condition (Yao Syndrome), & am currently out of commission. To be quite honest, I am struggling to manage this as my health insurer (@AnthemBCBS) is refusing to cover medically necessary meds.

I’m retiring at the end of June after 30 years of teaching. I just wrote my last set of report cards & I wept after finishing. I realized this is the last Sunday I have to give up for this job. The public truly has no idea the extra hours teachers put in outside of the classroom.
