The notion that jobs are the only marker of contributing to society belongs in history's dustbin. Imagine a society where caretaking and exploration are as valued. That's the potential of universal basic income - it liberates us from the 9-5 model to pursue what truly matters.

Do not confuse welfare with UBI. If you get $1k in welfare does it make sense to take a $1k job, lose your welfare and end up with the same $1k? No. If you get $1k UBI, does it make sense to take a $1k job and up with $2k? Yes. This is why so many pilots show increases in work.

This is the correct take, and he even includes that it radicalizes both the far right and far left. This is the kind of thing I think about when people say universal basic income costs too much. We may pay for the lack of UBI with the loss of our democracy. Put a price on that.
