Our curriculum team are currently intrigued by the story of #Commodus - a #Roman emperor you may be familiar with from the film #Gladiator. He renamed Rome and all the months of the year after himself AND fought as a gladiator. Wow. Writing #history-rich projects is fascinating!

Roman Emperor Commodus as Hercules, also known as The Bust of #Commodus as #Hercules, is a marble portrait sculpture created sometime in early 192 AD. It has become one of the most famous examples of Roman portraiture to date. Capitoline Museums, Rome, Italy.

It's a big day for #controversial Emperors as we wish happy birthday to Emperors #Caligula and #Commodus! Born AD 12 & AD 161 respectively, neither emperor was especially popular with their people. Both styled themselves as gods, with Commodus seeing himself as Hercules.
