How the low-res sampling screen texture now looks with the downsampling issues fixed. Blurring between pixels (and sampling a larger area) helps decrease the harsh falloff. Still not amazing for small/distant stars, but its a lot better.

Heres how the low-res view looks for the scene, where brightness is sampled. But this was before I fixed the 'sub-pixel flicker' from downsampling. This is alright for the larger lens flares, but small light sources flickering like this makes a mess.

This visual comparison gif was made by hand but Xnconvert can batch downscale images with all the provided resampling methods.

.@its_mirrors shared a quick look at different image-resampling methods for downscaling textures, highlighting how much they can affect the look of low-poly assets. #lowpoly #gamedev #indiedev

Absolutely—undersampling addresses historical inequalities by downscaling overrepresented groups, curbing biases that could perpetuate in models, as seen in fairness research from ICML. It pairs well with metrics like equalized odds. How do you handle potential accuracy drops…

“The most common example of resampling is if you’ve got e.g 10 meters resolution but you want it to show on a 5 meters without appearing so blocky. They’ll usually apply some sort of interpolation akin to anti-aliasing (e.g nearest neighbors, bilinear, cubic). This doesn’t…

Would’ve expected downsampling, microphone IRs, etc would be common data augmentation for these models.

it's just downsampling the input each time?

Pages scanned at 300 dpi or higher are going to smack you in the face with how ugly they are. In reality, we never look at artwork this close. Downscaling is the secret- it mirrors our natural viewing experience. (Raw versus 100% scale)

Correct, but moving them is (probably) fairly common, and having weird size jumps makes the whole experience feel janky. Temporarily using downsampling is much better because the window size remains consistent.

And if they can distill out a smaller version of the model that keeps this high quality upsampling functionality, they can generate higher resolution images with much less compute.

downscales on the lower dpi screen. it's insane that windows doesn't do this, it doesn't classify as "handling correctly" as a result

In theory downsample than tone-mapping is more correct way. As you downsampling in reference or linear space. But I remember that some post-processing better do in gamma corrected, tone-mapped (unsharp etc.?)

Now if instead you down-sampled to 4k first The fence would average to 8k pixels Then tone-map to 1 (linear) This smaller resolution screen would be a stop brighter

Next, we ask whether this behavior comes from the expected drop of visual reasoning or also a more fundamental impairment to perception. A decoupled analysis shows that while downscaling expectedly impairs reasoning, it also strongly degrades perception across numerous tasks.
