It's really not though because it's not a locked-down box. Nothing to stop someone from installing Windows and using Epic, Windows Store, over Steam, or just using it as an emulation box.

No, it’s a box that delivers what a PC cannot: OS stability, easy of use, easy of setup, no maintenance, usable in the living room, great controller. Doesn’t perform as a 2k rig, doesn’t cost as a 2k rig.

Avoiding windows and a single, direct from source purchase to cover decent quality of the entire team library without thinking too much is appealing to many. And "pc priced" is still vague, but if it's 650ish for this form factor it'll be a steal. Maybe closer to 800? we'll see

Somewhat. It uses off the shelf parts except for the mainboard that's custom and the CPU and GPU are soldered. RAM and SSD relatively easily upgradable. Really hoping the price is decent.

It's very tiny and compact. So that's basically what you pay for. 🤷‍♂️ But yes. There is nothing stopping you from just putting a big desktop pc in there and turn that into a steam machine.

Finally got a successful boot after about 8 hours of fiddling with this build. The scariest part was installing the ~$500 CPU into the socket… turns out the AMD socket requires significantly more force to close than I anticipated.

My guy it's a proprietary box with little to no chance of aging well. People that just buy prebuilt PCs will run head first into this, and those people will also likely not install an actual OS on it. The frame being a self contained PC makes sense, this is an extravagance.

The cpu and gpu are soldered to the board, and it doesn’t have the proper ports for an eGPU. This “pc” is not upgradable. It is more console-like than folks don’t want to admit.
