“For the first time, we’ve built actually a processor [... and] executed algorithms with logical qubits,” said Mikhail Lukin, one of the @Harvard scientists. Skip Sanzieri, co-founder of CyberSecurity co @QuSecure, said #LogicalQubits are the “Holy Grail” for #QuantumComputing.


The consensus is that—outside of few edge cases—useful computation will require #ErrorCorrected qubits. "#LogicalQubits" may require dozen/more hardware qubits to be useful. Enabling that means having hardware w/ 1000s/10s of 1000s of qubits, each w/ sufficiently low error rate.


A few years ago, #LogicalQubits were a theoretical construct; their basics have now been demonstrated. Two companies already have hardware with >1,000 qubits. The #QuantumComputing field appears to be moving steadily toward making logical qubits a reality. #ErrorCorrection


.@QueraComputing's 2026 machine will enable up to 100 #LogicalQubits—expected to be sufficient to perform useful calculations, such as simulation of small molecules. While this #roadmap seems optimistic & aggressive, it doesn't seem completely ludicrous. #QuantumComputing
