also consider: you could have the advanced kids teach each other new advanced things that each had been asked to learn separately. you could do the same with kids in the standard class, and the remedial class. you don't need a mixed class to do this.

We differentiate instruction for students. I have at least three reading levels worth of materials for each class. Students get to make choices of types of assignments they submit to take into account different learning styles.

If you teach elementary grades (K-5), you need a multiple-subject credential. If you teach secondary grades (6-12), you need a single-subject teaching credential. Generally, a teaching credential is in addition to a bachelor's degree. A master's degree is an advanced degree.

Exception: grouping all remedial kids in one class doesn’t work well in my experience of actually teaching those classes. A teacher can successfully work with two levels in the same class, it’s when you try to stretch beyond that when things fall apart.
