also consider: you could have the advanced kids teach each other new advanced things that each had been asked to learn separately. you could do the same with kids in the standard class, and the remedial class. you don't need a mixed class to do this.

We differentiate instruction for students. I have at least three reading levels worth of materials for each class. Students get to make choices of types of assignments they submit to take into account different learning styles.

This is an inter-sibling example, but multi-age classrooms are effective because of things exactly like this: Little kids look up to older kids and want to learn from them (more so than from adults) Big kids get their learning reinforced by teaching it to younger students
