It was a technical problem, one the IT community knew about, and one that they were working on (at least kind of) long before Y2K blew up into the cultural phenomena it became. Alas, the progress on the repairs was going quite slowly and not enough attention was being paid to it

My last 3 PCs have all done this, normally an issue with the motherboard from my experience, last time it happened I reinstalled the RAM and it worked, might be worth a try
I had something similar happen to me a few months back. Running a chkdsk in command prompt fixed it. Not sure if that'll work in your case, but it's worth a shot if you haven't already.

WARNING. Bad bug in Mac’s Preview pdf handler. After crash some, but not all, previously saved annotations are lost. I googled it & it’s a known bug, which Apple should fix. Thank goodness, Acrobat rescued me. All restored. Phew! I’ll now use Acrobat instead of Preview.

Y’ALL. An ARC reader found this error. I checked—it’s been there since the alpha version. 8 alpha readers, 20 betas, & many (dozens?) of ARC readers missed this. (Not to mention me.) Hope you get a kick out of it. And yes...it’s in print...several boxes of books. 🤦🏼♀️ 😆😆🧦🦶
i fixed it! the solution required me to shut down and restart the computer eight times, not seven
Well, I found the problem. Looks like somebody tried to cram-a-lam a Swiss Cake Roll into the disk drive.
Ah yes . After 1 week away from my computer, my graphic tablet doesn't work anymore. A new bug i've never seen in 4 years. Just. perfect.
