Embarking on a new teaching adventure this semester! I am dedicating part of my class time to explicitly help students develop research and writing skills, and to delve into the hidden curriculum often overlooked in academia. Excited to see the outcomes. #TeachingExperiment
What are you putting in place to create a psychologically safe school? What would look the same as the list shared (for a psychologically safe classroom)? What might look different? We'd love to hear how you create a psychologically safe staff culture in the chat below ...
Love this! #pd4uandme #TeachingExperiment
Also used to take advantage of my afterschool club #TheTechnovators who would volunteer/work on these parent nights & help me with delivering PD to teachers (who doesn't love to learn a new tech tool from a student) #PD4uandMe
My principal runs a program called FAR (families as readers). She chooses a book and they meet throughout the year to talk about it. The student comes with an adult. #pd4uandme
Wow... I watched this over and over again! So creative. #sunchat #TeachingExperiment
One pagers are always part of choices. We did a graphic essay earlier this year, too. It went really well. This was one of my favorite project submissions. #sunchat
Emily, these give me chills! Thank you for sharing. @kidswholit @ShiselleLO @ylonkarodriguez @lorenadegarrido #TeachingExperiment
Psst… Wanna walk a mile in my shoes?!? Reading the book “My Shoes and I” by @renecolato, inspired me & my students to share bits & pieces of our own immigrant journeys too. Would you want to walk a mile in our shoes?!? Stay tuned for their stories & you decide.…
Check this out, @kidswholit! So fun! #TeachingExperiment
Did we use a gallery walk of hypothetical "break up text messages" to introduce + begin discussing how different rhetorical appeals can show up in our communication? You betcha! #noregrets
I love this idea Nili! What a wonderful way to build community. @ShiselleLO @ylonkarodriguez #teachingexperiment
A1) a tradition that I absolutely love in one of the buildings where I work is on the very first day of school all staff line up at drop off, holding signs with unique messages that all students and families belong. It’s amazing. #LeadLAP
Love the positive focus + growth. #TeachingExperiment @kidswholit
These are the #rubrics I’m developing w schools now. We center on what #students CAN do, what’s next, & actionable steps (w links to resources) to grow. Symbols could be added, but most of the time aren’t needed. We need measures to support self-efficacy. #sblchat #ATAssessment
I love this. So empowering! Just the kind of positivity we need to see from our leaders. #TeachingExperiment
.@KamalaHarris to young woman in Iowa: “You never ask anyone to give you permission to lead.” Then asks her to repeat it back to her. 💀
The beginning of this school year has been amazing! I'm proud to work with Ts, Ss & Ps who are all visionaries and risk takers. We are not just adapting to change, but actively shaping the future of learning. #ReimaginingSchool #TeachingExperiment youtube.com/watch?v=81jmrr…

I like this idea, Rebecca! @ylonkarodriguez @lorenadegarrido - we could ask Ss who are interested to research on Project Day & become a resource for Ts & Ss. What do you think? #satchat #teachingexperiment
The power of language! Great questions for beginning a PL session on recognizing the genius in all students. #TeachingExperiment
"What are the foundations on which your brilliance grows?" How are we creating strong, solid foundations for learning? For ourselves? For and with our students? For and with our staff teams? What are some of your top actions to build strong foundations for learning?
Marcul, I love the way you've used the TQE structure for your own reflection process. I'd like to share this with my Ts. I'm sure the ones who have used TQE discussions will think it's great! Thank you for sharing. #TeachingExperiment
Leaning into #TQE even as I think ahead towards next school year—created a Google Doc to capture "Next Year" thoughts, questions + (eventually) epiphanies in this final stretch of this year (as always, 🙏 to @MarisaEThompson for this framework!)
Cool example. I've seen students do hexagonal thinking before, but haven't seen it with the notes written directly next to the connections. Makes the thinking visible! #teachingexperiment
"both felt like they needed control in their lives" After three introductory texts to our final unit, 10th graders had a chance to assemble hexagons and search for connections—and it was very cool to watch happen:

We used to do a Bedtime Stories night where families would come in their pajamas, stories would be read / acted out on stage, then attendees would read shared books. I loved it! #pd4uandme
One way to bring families in is to have the students help plan the event, be a part of the event and help! We had a student read a bilingual poem and others were in charge of helping set up. I’m excited to have our students design our parent event this year #PD4uandMe

One of the options for our year-end project: students can record themselves reading their narrative aloud and hyperlink it onto the document (If you haven't tried this out, I'd 100% recommend: game-changer when students intentionally read their own stories aloud!)

Understanding the relationship between concepts is the starting point for true learning transfer and changing the world!

Q2. The educational system needs a re-haul. What are some ways we could make changes to siloed subjects, schedules, teaching by age level, homework, grading, etc.? #rethink_learning #teachingexperiment
Q4. If educational leaders who make the policies are not willing to make the changes we need, what are some grassroots ways we can make them happen? #rethink_learning #teachingexperiment
Q1. The pandemic put a spotlight on many things that are wrong with education. But we can’t add new things to our plates until we remove old ones. What are some things we can take away to lighten the teaching load? #rethink_learning #teachingexperiment
Powerful beginning of our 27th of Feb Performance, about the pros and cons of technology. Students silently walk up to the stage, heads bowed over their cell phones, never looking at the audience. Gave me chills. #teachingexperiment
Thanks to our awesome guest host Carla Meyrink @carlameyrink, my wonderful co-hosts @Kyriakixt & @raspberryberet3, & all the amazing participants today who shared about “Reimagining Education.” Save the date 6/6/22 for the next #rethink_learning chat. #teachingexperiment
