This is going to be a tough ship to turn around. For Windows, this may have started when Microsoft opened up desktop dev to JS to try and juice app dev around Windows 8. Some portion of those devs were later promoted into management and now it’s web apps all the way down.

windows is drowning in technical debt and backwards compatibility. The engineers are incompetent and the upper management is hell bent on putting ai into everything. There is no hope for windows. It's all downhill from here.
