You can't tell from the picture, but I'm talking about dead opossums at a wedding reception. That's normal wedding behavior, right? #BiologistProblems
That moment you first introduce a potential date to your love of dead things, and they’ve read the text but haven’t responded... #VultureCulture #biologistproblems
Anyone else find themselves referring to their pet’s microchip as a PIT tag? I can never even remember the word microchip #biologistproblems
Packing my apartment and I keep finding more skulls and more books and I can't figure out where to put the human leg. #skullcollecting #VultureCulture #biologistproblems
This is my corkscrew, I've had it for years and it goes everywhere with me, even though it's clearly a macaw. #biologistproblems
When you forget you’re a biologist..A lovely pharmacist asked if I needed any help in the shop. I replied “That would be great! I’m struggling to decide which pair of tweezers would be best to pick up insects?” She wasn’t sure..I don’t think I’m allowed back.. #biologistproblems
Why do my snakes keep crossing really deep creeks with steep banks? And how do they do it so easily?!Sigh. #fieldwork #biologistproblems
Having mixed emotions about this... Someone sent me a card (yay!) on left. I can't stop seeing randomized block design (wow, thanks, stats brain) on right. #BiologistProblems
Turns out replacing these 85yo glass specimen tubes is harder than it was to clean the 85yo formalin off my bed after they broke and I spilled it. 🤷♀️#biologistproblems #biologistsareweird
Question: Better for the good folks at @Walgreens to think I have constipation and body hair issues, or know that I'm shaving bats and catching bird poop for research? #biologistproblems 🦇🐦💩
science.org/doi/10.1126/sc… Well, here is nicer older article talking on the problem of basic biology :P
I'm guessing doing an engineering project based on biology doesn't help because it's making me put constraints on the project when there doesn't need to be a constraint.
Biology in general is full of questions and the experts pretend they have certain things figured out which really aren’t Of course, there isn’t much money in admitting “I don’t know” or “I was wrong, so wrong” Same goes for economics and most social sciences
In biology we are much better at generating potential solutions than finding them. We really need to get higher throughput (samples screened per $) or better at predicting stuff (hits per sample screened). Preferably both. It's by far the biggest bottleneck in the field.
There are lots of biologists who can code, I built whole teams of those folks. But I think the original sin is software distribution via publication rather than say github. No incentive to build maintainable software vs. a morass of one-off scripts
its always a problem like im literally always doing something wrong it never fails💆🏻♀️
This is a big reason why the problem exists- we need to make biology more accessible.
Starting early..... #biologist problems when you don't have a "field season" you just have fieldwork.
3/ The gap between statistics and biology creates real problems: Statisticians see numbers and distributions Biologists see biological plausibility
The hardest problem for a non-teleological biology is the existence of conscious agents with intentions, desires, and goals youtu.be/1gZw1SuykB8?si…

7 degrees.... really? Well at least it looks like it might not rain where we are headed. #biologistproblems #outfall surveys today, AKA just follow the pipe....if you can find it of course.
We have a group of biologists at an Ivy League university who don’t have any way to tell a male from a female. Seriously. They have no objective way to determine this. Biologists. They are biologists. Story in comments.
I receive this complain a lot from Biochemists. What’s really the problem?
Biologists in the field run into huge issues when they can’t FIND the creatures they are studying. They need to count organisms and study how they llive. This is easy if you are studying something in abundance, but what if you are studying something endangered?
The fundamental problem in embryology is that you have to get from a single cell to a complex organism that is not symmetrical in two different axes, and about 10 orders of magnitude. Oh, and everything must work at all times while growing. 2/13
Sunday isn't a rest day, even in January here at MBC. Sunday is "get a head start on next week day" #biologistproblems #lab tech day for me!
