I love how the #brain2AI debate was organized (and hosted) 👏🏼 It all boiled down to how panelists interpreted the questions. Almost as if representing meaning was a hard task for both biological & artificial systems… Someone should study meaning in the brain 😉
Generalized enthusiasm at #brain2AI on the brain as useful design for AI, but let's consider there's not only one brain solution (ie, landscape of possible trade-offs) & there might be a non-brain solution, why not! Bonus: we might learn something about the brain along the way...
Tomorrow I will be in #Brain2ai WS at @iclr_conf How Can Findings About The Brain Improve AI Systems? Presenting our paper: #Neuroscience-inspired perception-action in #robotics: applying #ActiveInference for state-estimation, control and self-perception with @marcelge #ICLR2021
Mike Davis from @turinginst opening #brain2AI with the Efficiency Gap: optimization is the core of both, but biological systems evolved with lots of constraints, artificial ones are all about functionality = need to rethink computing with inspirations from biology #BrainIsSparse
Check out our short opinion piece where we draw parallels between investigating brains and neural nets! "Probing artificial neural networks: insights from neuroscience" arxiv.org/abs/2104.08197 Written with @NogaZaslavsky and @JohnHewtt for the #brain2AI #ICLR2021 workshop. 1/
#brain2AI workshop is happening in 1 week! Look out for daily questions that will help start the discussion with our fantastic panelists. Q1: The brain “solution” is one of the different possible ones to solve various problems. When is it useful to follow it in designing AI?
Quite a divide on how useful the comparison #brain2AI at the implementation level will be, but @alonamarie throws it off the park on the algorithmic one (citing @mrwdawson’s artifacts of the algorithm): “Yes and I have done it” [e.g. doi.org/10.3115/v1/p14…]
Tune in to the #brain2AI workshop at ICLR on May 7 for the results! Q2: If AI eventually excels beyond human experts in many or all domains, would studying the brain still be useful?

#brain2AI started @iclr_conf - nice motivational opening by @vvobot - excited to listen to the first speaker: Mike Davis! 🚀 PS: I do not like webinars for WS, breaks the interaction already minimal in virtual settings 😅
