Just how I wanted to start my morning....

#RustAgeOfSoftware Windows Weather app refreshed when I sat down to my computer this morning. It brought up weather for Washington, DC. It was for Nashville when I went to bed last night, because that's where I am. Washington isn't on my list of cities. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy.

@Apple if your programmers can’t stop this when turning my phone to see a picture, then why should we believe your AI will be any better? #rustageofsoftware

I only noticed it today because I had to switch one of my email accounts away from Outlook 2016. Can't find a way to fix the "could not be updated" problem with one of my calendars, which contains most of my most important appointments. #RustAgeOfSoftware

Bad weather is coming to parts of Tennessee tonight. I'd love to get detail using the Weather app. But its radar capability isn't working. However, the rotating ads are working perfectly. Cramming ads into everything is another example of the #RustAgeOfSoftware

#RustAgeOfSoftware Here's a new one. In thirty years of using Notepad, this is the first time I've ever seen it lock up. Something to do with trying to print a text document from OneDrive. Replicated this - happened three times. Printed text from Word instead. Worked fine.

#RustAgeOfSoftware My best guess: the dev creating the grammar checker didn't understand recursion. By the way, it's fixed now. Maybe they found someone who did understand recursion.

#RustAgeOfSoftware Bit of advice for the @Windows app dev team: When you redesign an app, you're supposed to make it better, not more cluttered & confusing. It looks like someone took an intro class on data visualization & decided to use every example from the whole semester.

#RustAgeOfSoftware I'm trying to compose a comment in the Q&A section for one of my @LinkedInLearning courses. I've tried three times, there does not seem to be a way to get in anything that will function as a paragraph marker. All I get is one giant glob of text.

#RustAgeOfSoftware Hey, @windowsdev, I've been seeing very odd behavior on some Windows apps lately. The Maps app sometimes claims it can't find a location that it autocompleted on a search. And in the video below, it just crashes going to a location that it found.

#RustAgeOfSoftware Lucky wants me to buy some jeans, so they promote the ones that fit me best. But... not a single size is available. I'd think the devs or product managers or *somebody* would think to check that a product is actually available before promoting it.

Today's #RustAgeOfSoftware entry: The CDC COVID data tracker is currently not working in @MicrosoftEdge. It works fine in Chrome and Firefox. I think one of the globs (like the liquid metal Terminator in T2) failed to come together for the page rendering.

As the week comes to a close in Orlando, I’m about sick of having sunshine and rainbows blown up my arse about how great “AI” is here at #live360. Esp since my phone still wants to tell everyone how I’ve had such a “ducking” good time. #RustAgeOfSoftware

#RustAgeOfSoftware Bad design and bad implementation are everywhere. This week, you can find egregious examples of both in the #MSIgnite2022 session scheduler page for mobile. It's unusable. I can't tell that there was any design thought or any testing beyond a smoke test.

Windows 10 just rebooted for no reason I can tell. Update maybe. I wasn't at my desk. So guess what? Image of the Day is back on in Edge. {sigh} #RustAgeofSoftware

I'm seeing a spate of articles in which people who happen to be good writers are seeing their content falsely flagged as "AI generated". I'm assuming that the AI detection programs are just as much junk software as many of the apps I use. #RustAgeOfSoftware

I need to vent (again) about the worst app on my iPhone: the ActiveArmor app from @ATT. Front & back ends both suck. Badly designed UI. Doesn't work right - often does not refresh it's own data. Can't report spam - the call does not show up in the call list. #RustAgeOfSoftware

#RustAgeOfSoftware The @SouthwestAir app for iPhone has become almost useless to me. It requires me to re-enter credentials every couple days. For good security, I use a long password that I don't remember, and the ID is my nine digit Rapid Rewards number. Inexplicable.

In beautiful Porto, Portugal this week for @NDCPorto. My two-day design thinking workshop starts tomorrow. I'll finish off Wednesday with Lies Developers Tell Themselves, including a couple of new self-deceptions from our current #RustAgeOfSoftware.

Today's #RustAgeOfSoftware notes: 1. OneNote just stops accepting keyboard input as I switch between apps. If I minimize it, and then bring it back, keyboard input wakes up. 2. Searching in Outlook inbox. Spinner just spins & spins. Cancel search. Do it again. Instant results.

#RustAgeofSoftware @ATT used to have a program called Call Protect. It worked fine and was easy to use. If a spam call came in, it was instantly available to report. They replaced it with a piece of junk called Active Armor. Awful performance, confusing UX, cluttered interface
