For Snape, I get the logic. If you cast Adam Driver, the direct comparison to Alan Rickman would be impossible not to make. By casting someone completely different, they give him space to not be overshadowed.
I'm glad you think that, but it is very unlikely that Adam Driver agrees with you. He has expressed no public interest in the part and he just finished filming with Howard and Gray, so he's clearly locked into getting through his A-list director bucket list.
