Lol this seems impossible but I can confirm it’s true. Phillies entered the top of the 9th inning with a 5-0 lead. Kyle Backhus proceeded to get 1 out and give up 3 earned runs. It then turned into a closer 5-3 game. Jhoan Duran entered the game as it then became a save
But it was Seager and a bunch of righties who did the damage against Backhus. I wouldn't expect much from Smith against a guy who held lefties to a .139/.225/.278 slash line last year. The big issue is how much the early pinch hitting impacted late-game decisions.
You may be right. Smith is supposed to be your everyday guy though. To me, it more comes down to which pitcher do you want out there. I don’t want the closer. They were killing the ball against Backhus.
